Hello Everyone,

A've installed Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server 2005 and all the SP's necessary. My Problem is I do not have the possability to install a SQL Server Instance of any kind, therefore it is not possible to start any of the SQL Server 2005 Configuration Tools.

I Get the Warnings during the Installation process:

  • Edition Change Check
  • SQl Server Edition Operating System Campatibility

Any help at all is very much appreciated, thanks a lot.

After SQL Server 2005 has been installed and SP2 is also applied, "Edition Change Check" message is expected if SQL Server 2005 RTM is installed. Under this scenario, you can ignore this information, but after SQL Server 2005 RTM is installed, SP2 should be applied immediately.

For the second message, which edition of SQL Server 2005 is being installed Is it Enterprise, Developer, Standard, Express... If it is Enterprise, then it is not supported as Enterprise requires server operating systems like Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4, Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP1, and the coming Longhorn Server. Vista Ultimate is a client operating system.

Thanks for responding.

I have installed SP2 as you succested.

It is SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. I thought this would work (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx, Table at the End)

It did work under Windows XP!

If not, which SQL Server 2005 Versions do work with Vista Ultimate

Thanks for any responses

XP is also a client operating sytem, which cannot support SQL Server 2005 Enterprise editions. For Vista Ultimate, all SQL Server 2005 Editions except Enterprise are supported. But remember, after you install SQL Server 2005 RTM on Vista machine, please apply SP2 immediately.
