I am trying to record my application by getting the screen bits and saving them to an AVI. I have done that, but on some machines it is REALLY slow. And these are fast machines. 3.2Ghz with PCI Express video cards. Right now I am doing a BitBlt() which seems to be the consensus quick way. That machine I mentioned above gets bogged down to 2fps using my recorder vs 15fps with Fraps (and possibly higher, but it is restricted to that by a setting).

The reason I am here is I read about DirectShow filters and I admit they are more than I can understand without some explanation. So I thought I would ask for help.

Have you tried the Windows Media Encoder SDK (will save to WMV but there is a screen capture feature). It's more straightforward than using dshow.
