Hello, Ive used Windows Cardspace before successfully, but now it gives me problems.

We are running WSUS3 with automated updates. Im running Windows XP SP2 on a HP Compaq nw9440

I make sure infocard.exe and icardagt.exe is not running. Then in control panel I double click on Windows Cardspace and it flashes and then disappear. If I double click again, it says: An error occurred accessing the Windows CardSpace. Please check the event log for more details.

In event log i get this:
he Windows CardSpace service is too busy to process this request. User has too many outstanding requests.

If I navigate to the Cardspace folder in Localsettings as per the other posts on the forum, I dont have ANY access. I have full administrative privileges on the computer. I can browse in the Cardspace folder, but not access any of the files or even view the security settings or owner.

If I look at running processes infocard is started as SYSTEM and icardagt under my username. Both is there.

Any ideas or debug tools I tried deleting the Cardspace folder, but still no luck.

Thanks!
Francois

The error makes it sound like that the previous request is still open, while you make a 2nd request.

I was wondering if you can turn off any security/firewall/anti-virus software you may have installed and try again. Since CardSpace uses a private desktop, it may be the fact that some software is preventing you from switching over to the private desktop.

Hello,

Ive disabled Symantec Antivirus (Corporate Edition) and Windows Firewall. Still the same problem. Is there any debugging tool or way to monitor which application causes the error How can I test the Private Desktop to see if that is the issue

Thanks!
Francois

Try downloading a SysInternals tool called Process Explorer.

Inside, do a search for desktop handles.

All CardSpace desktop handles look like InfoCard{GUID.}

Hello,

I got that details, now what

I can see the desktop handle, and properties.... Theres 1 Account that doesnt resolve. System has Delete, Query State, Modify State, Change Permissions and Change owner access. S-1-5-5-0-12356642 only has Query & Modify State.

What else should I look at

Thanks!

Sorta troubleshooting in the dark here, but I don't think it's network/hardware related seeing how you've gotten it to work before.

Could extra questions:

You mentioned you've gotten WCS to work before. Same computer and same OS

Is your user profile on the same harddrive or on a shared location somewhere else

Can you try creating a new account on your computer and seeing if it has any problems launching WCS

*WCS = Windows CardSpace.

Hey there,

I cant remember that I used WCS on this machine yet. WCS worked on my previous machine... Also HP Laptop with WinXP SP2, model nw8240.
My profile is on the local machine, not shared.
I will try creating a new account and then test WCS again 2nite.

Does Control Panel -> Regional Options -> Languages -> Details -> Advanced -> Turn Off Advanced Text Services have anything to do with this Other than that, My system is configured for South Africa and the rest is standard.

Thanks!
Francois

WCS does do something differently when Advanced Text Services are enabled, but I dont think it prevents it from launching. Have you tried disabling it and seeing if you're able to open WCS

Re: Windows CardSpace (InfoCard) Windows Cardspace Errors

Mine is disabled, thats why i asked... Ive also enabled it and tested WCS afterwards, still same result....

Im starting to think its 1 of the classic microsoft issues.... only solution is to format and start from scratch Sad

Thanks for all the help!!

Kind Regards
Francois
