    - Vista task scheduler and console-application: How to start it visible? Hi. I made a C#-console-application. I want to start the application by the windows task scheduler. The application should be visible while it's executed to show debug- and progress-information. This works fine when starting the app from console or explorer. It works as well when starting the app from the taskplaner of WinXP. But under Vista, the app runs, but no console-window shows up. What could be the problem I couldn't find any switch in the task scheduler to tell Vista to run the application visible.     - Extract values from persisted workflow without instanciate it I agree with you... And it was my first approach. But then... We won’t be taking full advantage of the workflows! The persistence database is used by the workflow runtime, but the tracking database is useless to the workflow itself. I believe tracking is more likely a way to control the flow of information. The best uses I see for tracking is debugging the workflows, audit the application and control the flow and state of the workflow. If you want to have a complete audit of the system and to control the flow and state you need to track the input values also. If tracking is enabled as is considered an option, it’s not one or two more parameters to track that will be a bad use of it. I started the application and created in the application DB some boolean fields marking the state of workflow. If it his in 2nd activity, then it is waiting for departure, if it is in 4th activity is waiting to arrive... But I believe that we can do a better approach by querying the tracking DB for values and states instead of record information in various DB tables and query it in every step. This way I query the Tracking DB and only update the application DB at the end of workflow. It works like a "rollback" if it doesn’t reach the end... I’ve also considered the performance part… and I didn’t found anything to read regarding this… TrackingQuery the DB queries all tracked activities and not only the persisted workflows activities… Is there a way to make this selection If anyone can enlighten me in this, I would appreciate it.     - Cd DVD drives disappear in Vista I cannot help, but only comment that I used a USB linked HDD with the Vista installation files and reinstalled that way. I opted to do a complete reinstall and selected to keep the old windows system as "windows.old" This was a successful reinstall. My Virtual CD and D: are here ( for the moment ). I was able to reclaim a lot of useful information and picture files etc from windows.old before deleting it. However 3 gripes. 1. This should not have been necessary 2. My hitherto reliable Targus wired optical mouse failed to work. A driver was required! 3. My iomega usb floppy boots at boot time for desperate stuff like nuking your install with a linux boot but booted into windows it needs a driver! the xp version is not acceptable. Subsequently after umpteen fiddles the mouse suddenly discovered itself as a "Chic PS2 Mouse" (I don't care it works!) The USB Floppy remains problematical. My MAJOR point is Microsoft explain that man years of coding/research/improving blah bl**dy blah! went into this magnificent new and extremely costly operating system that loses optical drives and cannot find an optical mouse. I find this breathtaking! You can laugh at my signature as I reach for the vallium! I also had received the error message "missing d3drm.dll" with my brand new notebook using Vista, trying to complete installation of proprietary 3-D modeling software. I called the software company, they said that sometimes the updated "Video Card" driver was not installed with current versions. That is to say my video card company did not have the most current driver for VISTA. So through DELL tech support, I went to : http://www.driverskit.net/dll/get/494.html and downloaded the "d3drm.dll" and placed the file in the following path as directed by DELL tech support: c:\windows\system32 .     - GetSystemMetrics( SM_CXPADDEDBORDER ); Hey! I'm upgrading a Win2K/XP MFC/Win32 (no .NET) application to give it a more modern look and feel when running in Vista. I use Visual Studio 2005 C++ and have the February 2003 Platform SDK loaded. The application uses a CDialogBar derived class with an override added for CalcDynamicLayout() so that the dialog bar will always take up all available vertical or horizontal space in the main frame depending on its orientation. The calculation to figure out how much space is available is off by the new border padding used by the Aero theme so the dialog bar is getting cut off on the right side. If I could just get my hands on the size of that border padding, I could subtract it out and get the correct available size. After digging on MSDN, I found that the GetSystemMetrics() call was updated for Vista, providing a new index, SM_CXPADDEDBORDER, to get that size. Since I have the Feb 2003 SDK loaded, SM_CXPADDEDBORDER isn't defined so I added my own #define to set it to 92, which is the number shown in the documentation on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724385.aspx . The DLL involved is user32.dll. The documentation also states that if the function fails, the return value is 0. My problem is that I'm ALWAYS getting 0, even when running on Vista. I would have thought that the user32.dll supplied with Vista should support this call. Has anyone else run into this Anyone have any clues or suggestions Thanks!     - No sound on my Toshiba Satellite , I've tried many drivers Hi all, Just had this issue and spent a lot of wasted time on it. Here's my story if it helps. It started with an automatic update that generated a system error see KB 935448. Applied fix ok but 2 days later sound died. Updated sound card with latest realtek drivers, no effect. Noticed a WMM driver under sounds in device manager, flagged as error, and removed it. Now all is ok. Hope this helps. I am very surprised that IMAPIv1 doesn't support DVDs because we have been using it in our application for years to burn DVDs on XP. I am not being sarcastic here as I realize that it is possible for something to work but not be supported. I am very pleased to learn how to write to Live File System discs. Somehow I missed the documentation about this. A day or two of frustration. Too bad. My one remaining problem, then, from my other post, " imapi2sample with multisession UDF disk goes into infinite loop on ImportFileSystem", is that when I run the imapi2sample program and try to import from a Live File System disc, I get varying behavior that includes an infinite loop and crashing in ImportFileSystem. This, of course, makes me nervous about using it as a way of detecting Live File System discs. Since the problems aren't happening when my IMAPIv1 app is calling ImportFileSystem behind the scenes, maybe the problem is something specific to imapi2sample. Thanks for your help on this.     - Workflow Tracking performance issue I am not DB expert but 25000 of records seems a lot.. There is some stored procedure, that might help you to partition table rows into more tables, BUT you should know, that if you use SqlTracking object model, all events are loaded from sql tables.. There are no usable infos about workflows, just that something happend, I think you should analyze what do you really need to track, what is customer critical and so on.. Another not much nice hints can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/07/03/Foundations/default.aspx Btw you can track only some of the data easily by using TrackData method call inside workflow Executing operations. If you need to log persistance, you can inherit sqlpersistanceservice and overwrite methods for loading and unloading. I am getting the above mentioned error on Vista Home Premium.

I have a Toshiba Satellite w/ Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family Video Adaptor.

I am running with the latest driver.

I don't have the ability to change the Hardware Acceleration because the driver won't allow it.

How do I fix this error

I have the exact same error and the same intel driver.

My BSoD claims igxprd32 is the file causing the problems, but there seems to be little i can do about it because my computer shuts down before I can do anything (usually up for only a minute). I tried the microsoft work around of changing the display settings but still no luck. I also attempted to update my intel drivers but that also did nothing. I am at my wits end. Do I need to purchase a video card

Any help would be appreciated!
