Hello, I am a Vista user since February and after a few months i bought a microphone and the PC cant recognize it. I tried a way from a website and boost the microphone to +20db. It worked ...for that day. The next day, when i tried to use it, it had return to it non-functioning state. I tried what i did yesterday but failed. I heard from my friend to update the sound card but still failed.

So i stumped into this website to help me make the microphone work in great detail. At the near end, It told me to uninstall the sound driver. I did. And i restart the PC. Then from the web i was told to use the Gateway Recovery to reinstall my sound driver. But i soon found out, i don't have the programme. Now, everything that have to do with sounds E.g: itunes, skypes, even error, the cpu itself beep, doesn't work.

My problem get worser soon. I tried to download a new driver for my PC but after downloaded from 3 different website. All hope failed. So I think of reinstalling the soundcard from my Intel Express Driver CD and mocked around with it, and things go totally wrong. Blue screen error appeared and when i restart my PC, i got a black screen with a mouse pointer. I have to open task manager and run 'explorer.exe' to open the desktop, and 'sidebar' for the obvious.

As i panicked, i pooped in my Vista dvd and decide to repair my PC. I got an error telling me that it cant extent some files.

Now, what started off as a Microphone problem, turned into a soundcard absence. And now I can't even use IE7 (good thing i have FireFox) and i cant open any window explorer. For example, if i click on Computer, it showed the Disk and files, but when i select a disk, it stated that Window Explorer have stopped working and the thing just closes. To open a file now, i have to open E.g: Task manager, run C:\XXXXX.

Details:

OS: Window Vista Home Premium (OEM)

MotherBoard: DP965LT (SKT775, PCIE, SND, GLAN, SATA2, DDR2)

SoundCard: Sigma Tel

Microphone: Some chinese knock off brand.

Processor: Intel Pentium D

I was thinking for reinstalling all component from scratch but i still looking for advices before it.

If someone is willing to help me, i might able to supply screenshots.

*pardon my weak english and pc knowledge.

hmm, interesting that no one has gotten back to you on it. well, alright, first off, did you buy your computer with Vista on it already, or did you just get the update CD if so, (This is all from my expierence with XP btw, so it might not work, but it should). If you bought the computer with the vista on it, it should come with two disk, one that says system install, and the other that says driver install, use the driver install disk to re-install your sound card. If you bought the update, Im guessing your gonna have to find the drivers disk that came with your computer. So either way, you'll need to use the drivers install disk. if you cant find that disk, then good luck with the websites, but I'd suggest you go to the computer maker site. for me example I have an hp, so I'd go to www.hp.com. (btw, you'll need to know the make of your computer.) that way you'll get the proper drives. Well, Good Luck! and i hope I helped!
