can anybody tell me if it's possible to instanciate a workflow type directly from a .xoml file without having to compile

thanks

There is an overload on WorkflowRuntime.CreateInstance that accepts an XmlReader of the workflow definition. This should suffice as long as the workflow is pure XOML and not XOML with a code behind.

You have to remember to include a type provider service if you are using any custom activity types.

E.g.

Code Snippet

TypeProvider typeProvider = new TypeProvider( runtime );
typeProvider.AddAssemblyReference( "MyWorkflowActivities.dll" );
runtime.AddService( typeProvider );
