    - Force activities inside a ParallelActivity to close? I've a ParallelActivity containing two ListenActivity, base on the result of ListenActivity, I want to close the workflow instance in some conditions. I call RegisterForStatusChange() of each ListenActivity for ClosedEvent, and in OnEvent() of my workflow, I call context.CloseActivity() to close the workflow. However, it throw an exception that I cannot close it because of there are active child activities, since ListenActivity in another branch is waiting for user input or timeout, its state is executing. From my understanding, I think that ActivityValidator validates one activity. This is fine. My question is can we do cross validations across activities. Suppose there are two activities named A and B. activity A contains one property named 'prop1' and activity B contains a property named 'prop2'.     - WWF Design? I've been reading up on WCF and WF the past couple of days on articles I've run across on Google, blogs, etc. and at this point my head is just swimming in all the new concepts, designs, etc. Looking for some feedback and/or suggestions for design/development for a future system, so I can focus directly on what is needed vs. all the possible ways you can use the WF system. The current system we have is made up of a few dozen Window Services, spread across about 5 different Servers. Each system works off an Inbox/Outbox Folder structure, which could be local or remote Servers or FTP Sites. Each system may Insert or Read data from SQL Servers, each system may have it's own set of "working" folders where it may need to process/parse data from files that go through the system. I have run some tutorials on working with WCF Services, and was able to get them to work fine using IIS to host it. I used a simple Windows Application for the Host to interact with the WCF Service. I was thinking of maybe using this in a distributed load balanced scenario, but not sure how to hook it into the rest of the system for load balancing. Items I'm looking at are: 1. Build a system where each Window Service we have now could work (once redesigned/redeveloped under WWF) in a distributed load balanced environment, across the 5 different Servers we have. 2. Each new WWF System runs independent of each other, so if the Hosting App stops then it doesn't stop all the Systems but only the one. 3. If a file being processed fails, for whatever reason, need a way to make sure on the next cycle or revolution of the processing engine that the file gets processed again. At some point during the day, Databases may be backed up or engineers may be working on the Network and something spikes causing paths not to be found. This doesn't mean the file is bad, it just needs to be processed again. In the event we determine the file is bad, need the ability to remove it from the processing Queue in the event we deem it a failed packet. 4. Need a way to archive files coming in, as well as those going out. 5. Customized Tracking ability of files processed. Counts for files processed, bad packets, emails sent, etc. 6. If the Servers are restarted (occasional patches require this), need the Systems to automatically fire up when the Servers start back up. I'm just looking for some feedback, maybe linked articles if available, that talk about what components to develop or what parts of the WWF I should be focused on for developing a system like this.     - Problems with Ownership, Timers etc I have standard problem with ownerships, simply saying Runtime isn`t unlocking it and i have no idea why All my workflows have fields ownerId and ownedUntil - table InstanceState - set to some values(differnet from null). But ownedUntil expired long time ago so why isn`t it clearing Looking through tables and logs i noticed strange things : field nextTimer in table InstanceState is set to - 9999-12-31 23:59:59 for exery workflow why does workflow works in UTC Time i see this in database scripts - could it be a problem cause my servers aren`t so there is differnce in time. If it is a problem how can i change it, i know how to change in database scripts but how to change time for workflow It is not always like that but at some strange circumstances all workflow start to get locked and i have to unlock them manual, when my furious clients calls me.     - access violation when rendering stream Hello, In my program I use two encoder to generate a mpeg-2 mpts. The user can choose between mpeg-2, h.264 and disabled for each of two programs.     - No sound on my Toshiba Satellite , I've tried many drivers Hello guys, I own a Toshiba Satellite L100-121 notebook and I have recently upgraded to Microsoft Windows Vista. My notebook has an onboard sound card (realtek ac97 I believe) and I have downloaded so far almost 12 versions of sound drivers designed to work on Vista without success. When I inject shutdown message by the following command: rmtool.exe -p <PID> -S application silently finishes and four messages appears in application event log (translated by me from Czech to English): 1, information: commencing the relation 1 - ... 2, warning: can't restart application <APP NAME> (pid <PID>) -... 3, information: closing application or service <APP NAME> 4, information: closing the relation 1 - ... messages 1, 3, 4, seems right to me.     - Manifest files for Vista Hi, For some of the exes of my product, I need administrative privilege. So I embed them in my application with "requireAdministrator". It works fine on Windows Vista and prompts for allow/deny or administrator uname/password as applicable. But the same program has non consistent performance on previous OS versions(XP, 2003 Small business etc). It shows blue screen sometimes for the applications where these manifest files are embedded. One can avoid these blue screens if the embedded manifest file is also present in the same directory as the exe for other OS. I do not want to make my application dependant on the presence of manifest file in the same directory. Is there a way out Is there a tool to find whether an embedded manifest file will work or not on all previous OS.     - Separating Page Navigation Workflow and long running Business Logic Workflow Hello! I want to write a web application using ASP.NET in IIS. I want to use Workflow to control the page navigation and I also want to use separate Workflow for my business logic. I have two questions for anyone kind enough to help. One is about invoking multiple workflows from within a workflow within an ASP.NET environment The second is about the best approach to using multiple workflows for both page navigation and business logic. Originally, I created a workflowruntime in my ASP.NET environment and started it up in my app_start /end events. I was then able to instantiate a workflow for controlling page flow. I ran it using the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService without problems and was able to control page flow. However, I want my page navigation workflow to invoke/retreive separate workflows, each with specific knowledge about the part of the business they deal with. These business workflow will be long running. I've found that whether I invoke these secondary workflows using the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService or not (i.e. synchronously or aynchronously), the secondary workflow fails to run correctly. I detect the workflowstarted event raised by the runtime but nothing else happens. I've tried invoking these workflows using a custom activity that uses IStartWorkflow (for asyncronous) and a service derived from WorkflowRuntimeService to start a new workflow using the ManualWorkflowSchedulerService (for synchronous).     - suggestion Hello, I wasn't sure where I should post my suggestion to microsoft, so I put it in the forums... Make a process queue. The computer is download something for example. When it is done downloading, you want it to do x, y, and z. Have a whenFinished option or after 5 minutes running, etc. I think this will make the computer have the ability to be much more automated.     - Test case 1 - creating maniftest I am trying to satisfy test case 1 (execution level in manifest) for Vista certification. My development system, C++ Builder, does not create manifests. So I taking the approach of adding the resource "24:1:1033" to the exe file, containing an appropriate manifest. I've taken the schema scripts from the sql server persistence and mapped them into a set of oracle tables. Now its the stored procs.     - Vista Certification Test Case 30 Hello! We have a .NET application (.NET 2.0) and when I run test case 30 it seems to pass without adding any special "listening" code to the app. (I assume that .NET is handling this ) Our app is not designed to restart after shutdown. When I run "rmtool.exe -p dwPID -S" it shuts down the application and I get "Information" messages in Event Viewer. However, I also get a "Warning" message that states: "Application '<MyApp>' (pid 3220) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID".     - State Machine Webservice and SqlPersistence I would like to host a state machine workflow as a webservice using SqlPersistence. I have a VC2005 SP1 MFC application that I am working on deploying to Vista. I am using vcredist_x86.exe to deploy the various WinSxs files required. When I try to run the application I get a MessageBox that pops up and says "Error Code: 00000005". Dependency walker is happy, I am able to run the application with the Run As Administrator elevation, and I get minor warnings when I use the app verifier. So the question is: What does this error code mean

I realize that I can request the higher UAC level in my manifest, but don't think I should have to. The application runs fine in XP sp2 with a standard account, and I feel it should work for Vista the same way.
