When I generate a trap from a Vista machine using the WinSNMP APIs the agent address is 0.0.0.0 instead of the IPv4 address of the machine. If I run the same code on an XP SP2 machine the agent address is as expected. The code I am using to generate the trap is below.

I am new to SNMP and the WinSNMP API so it is possible I am omitting some important step, such as explicitly setting the agent address. I have searched the WinSNMP documentation and googled for inspiration but I have not found a way to set the agent address.

Where am I going wrong

Does the source IP show up correctly Can you use that

This might need more investigation at our end. Are you are an Empowered or Certified Microsoft parnter

The source address on the IP packet appears to be correct, so I guess I could use that.

However, and I may be demonstrating my ignorance of SNMP here, could the packet have been relayed so that the source address is not the source address of the original agent

Also, why does the code work on XP SP2 but not on Vista

The company I work for is a Gold Partner.

I am not an expert. The suggestion to use the source IP came from our internal Platform SDK Networking experts. To investigate further, they would want to create an incident on your company's Gold Parnter account. If it was found to be a bug, then the incedent would not be decremented from available incidents.

If you would like to create an incident, I can temporarily post my e-mail address so you can contact me directly. You will need to have your partner ID number available.

I am sure I am not the only one to suffer from this problem. Any software that expects to see the agent address in the SNMP trap PDU will also display 0.0.0.0. In fact it was because a third-party application was displaying the wrong agent address that I began investigating this issue.

I need to find our company partner ID, and see if the person responsible for managing our account is happy for me to raise an incident.

If you can supply your email address then I can let you know directly if I want to raise an incident.

This appears to be an advisory issues can be handled through the Microsoft Partner Support channel.
