Error Code 0x64C

I have tried for several months to download the security update for Microsoft.NET Framework Ver.2.0 and everytime I click onto update it fails and says it cannot be installed. I have looked thru all the support features and find no answers to troubleshoot this. The icon keeps re-appearing in my toolbar to update this and everytime it fails installation.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem Much thanks!

Ive had the same problem for months and have finally been able to install the update KB928365, on microsofts site it mentions that having Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) is a prerequisite to being able to installing it, and thats all i had to do.

ive installed it "WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe" and it worked perfectlly.

Hope this helps the rest.

Regards.

Can you please tell me HOW you did it to solve the issue of updating KB928365 I did try what you posted by installing
"WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe" and it did not work for me at all.
Thanks, hopefully you might be able to give more detail...

I have the same problem, and tried the update suggested above, but to no avail. My computer already has that program. I also have a problem with the installshield manager not working. Every time I start windows, I get a popup saying there was an error with intallshield manager. I haven't been able to solve that one either. Anyone else having this problem as well

As a try, first install Windows installer 3.1 on the machine. After that download and copy the 928365 locally to the hard drive into the folder C:\Windows\Installer or where ever the Windows directory is located.( This folder should be already there, we should not create it, just checl if its not hidden).

Best way to go there is . Go to Start-> Run and type %windir%\installer and press enter

Place the 928365 msi file in the above folder, also right click and extract the msi file, which should give you a .msp file (using tools like winzip or winrar).

Now try doubleclicking the msi file and install, see if it helps.

I did everything you suggested. I extracted .msp file in C:Windows\installer. After double-clicking .msp file I got message:

"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the appllication vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package".

What could be wrong

Thanks

Ok...I'm new to support forums and only found this place as I am having the same problem as all of you! I believe, however, that I have the solution. Well, it worked for me

This error occurs because the rollback feature of the Microsoft Windows Installer is disabled. The .NET Framework Setup program requires commit custom actions for proper installation. Rollback and commit custom actions do not run when rollback is disabled.

Rollback is disabled in the DisableRollback policy in the registry. The DisableRollback policy value may have been set by an administrator.

There are two places in the registry where the DisableRollback policy value can be set. To resolve this problem, you must find out where the DisableRollback policy was set and remove or disable the setting.

To find out whether this property exists in your registry, run C:\Regedit.exe and check the following locations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableRollback

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableRollback

If the DisableRollback key exists and has a value of "1", delete the key or set the value of the key to "0". (You can also set DisableRollback through command-line instructions. Microsoft recommends that administrators and developers not set this property if they use command line instructions to run Setup, or Setup will not work. THIS WILL NOT APPLY TO MOST USERS) So Just double click the registry entry and change the Value "1" to "0"

Then try running microsoft/windows update again! As I said it worked for me but I can't promise anything! I hope it works for you.

Take it easy,

Ace

Re: .NET Framework Setup Cannot install critcal update kb928365

alexei001

It didn't help. In fact I didnthave the DisableRollback key.

But I found the way how to fix it.

I removed the Microsoft .net framework 1.1 and 2.0 using Windows Install Clean Up.

After that I reinstalled them back and installed all critical updates.

The best solution in my opinion is to install the .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 for Windows XP, becuase it contains all of the security updates for the framework, by installing it from:

X86: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx familyid=79BC3B77-E02C-4AD3-AACF-A7633F706BA5&displaylang=en

X64: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=029196ED-04EB-471E-8A99-3C61D19A4C5A&displaylang=en

IA64: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=32E77AE0-96EF-4ECD-A157-9BF61A7C8DAA&displaylang=en

You can determine which version you need by opening a command prompt by going Start -> Run and type "cmd" and then enter.

Enter the following command:

set PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE

The result will be one of the following:

X86 = X86

amd64 = x64

ia64 = ia64
