    - Is this a bug? Thanks for the feedback. It turns out that the designer had a hiccup and "deleted" the primary key in one of my (real) tables. After fixing it the problem resolved itself as expected. The designer isn't always 100% stable and I've experienced strange problems like this before. The example I posted was from another source however (I neglected to provde the primary key) but unfortunately it took me hours to realize what happened in my real tables (where the keys haven't been touched in ages). When you add the reference, pay attention to the Path column in the dialog to find the older version. You can remove it with Regsvr32.exe /u path if the DLL is still there. If it isn't, you'll have to remove the registry entry in HKCR\TypeLib by hand. VB6 also tends to be flaky with registering when you build the component. Forcibly register it with Regsvr32.exe path . Another failure mode is side-by-side DLLs or registration-free activation.
