Virtual Earth previous and most recent release: I have a Dell 3.2Ghz processor, 1Gb RAM, lots of HD space with a flat panel monitor. Virtual Earth flashes on the screen. Google Earth works fine and all other programs work fine. VE in 2D is okay as well. Any advise

Can you describe what your experiencing along with instructions on how you got it Sounds like your using 3D mode with the initial map loading

After going to Virtual Earth, the page is in 2D initially...then I click on the 3D. That's when the map window starts flashing. If I move my mouse a bit it may stop flashing for a moment and when I do not move the mouse the map window flashes. I looked at my screen refresh rate and it is at the max, in fact, the only refresh rate I can go to without getting a warning that I could damage the monitor if I go any higher than the default setting of 60Hz. It a Dell 1801 Flat Panel. I also got the lates BIOS and flashed the bios, however, my BIOS was already the latest version available.

Sounds like an issue that your having with hardware acceleration. On my side occassionally I do notice a bit of flash do to loading times between 2D to 3D but afterwards the Map and buildings start loading fine. Can you get into 3D mode at all The best thing I can suggest is check with the help link at:

http://help.live.com/help.aspx mkt=en-ca&project=wl_local&querytype=keyword&query=qaf

Then lookup "System requirements for Virtual Earth 3D (Beta)". There's a lot of other related topics in there too.

Hope that helps,

Hmmmm....well first off, Refresh Rate does not have the same application to LCD panels as it does to CRT monitors, so I wouldn't think that's the problem. The Hardware Acceleration setting is a good point, and please post back if that fixes your issue. Some other things to consider checking and/or posting here:

- what operating system you have installed

- what browser and version you are using

- what, if any, plugins / toolbars / addons are installed with the browser

- what display adapter you have installed and what's the date on the driver package

- what is your current display setup (i.e., do you use multiple monitors or just the 1801 Flat Panel)

- are you behind any kind of firewall

- when did you install the 3D control

- when you click on the 3D button, do you get the ActiveX "Loading" screen with the progress circle

- did it ever render any of the 3D objects regardless of the flashing

I certainly sounds like you have "enough" machine to run the 3D aspect of VE just fine, so it's curious you're getting this behavior. Hopefully we can help you find a solution!

I checked that I have the necessary requirements...and I have a fairly powerful / fast system which should be ample to support this and I am using IE7...maybe that's the issue

Anyway, I did a "repair" download to .NET 2.0 and restarted and had the same problem. Guess I'll have to wait until VE comes out of Beta and maybe it won't be quite so sensitive to these things. It may be a dirty word around here, but all the features in Google Earth work flawlessly including street view so hopefully MS VE will come around to effortlesss install / use.

But...thanks for all your input.

Also to note is that there were a couple of bad MSI's (I recall one that was fixed off of the Interactive SDK) that may have been passed around online so if your not installing from local.live.com you can try removing and re-installing another copy of the VE MSI
