What do you think we could do to make the WIKI better It was suggested that people prefer to have a reference to show that they contributed, I actually ripped all the login stuff out to make it easier.

The suggestion is to put another field in where you put your name as the contributor. What do you think

Also the ViaVE site has become a target for spam so I put a Captcha control on the wiki page with a little unexpected feature, when you create a new page no matter what you type in for the Captcha it will fail the first time. So if you are adding pages don't even bother filling the captcha out the first time, it won't loose anything when it doesn't validate. This is actually an effective way to stops bots and even spammers. You kind of have to really want to do it!

Quickly, here are a few of my thoughts...

  1. Contributor Field
    • Having a contributor field is a great idea. Gives it more of a community feel and allows further discussion here in the forums.
  2. Main Page
    • I would also put the page "All Pages" as the main page. It took me days to figure out that there was more code then the VE Code Favorites.
    • The main page should be more portal-like, with all kinds of agregations beign displayed of the code snippits, ex: by popularity, by download, most recent etc.
  3. Categories
    • If the code pages were in categories that would probably help people find the code snippits much quicker then haivng to read each page title to figure out what the code does.
  4. User Interface
    • The UI could also be greatly improved, navigation of the wiki is difficult to find and understand.
    • The entire experience isn't particularily interesting

it'd be nice if like the MSDN forums I could login to my profile just like its setup here. Also to be picky, wikipedia has some great tools like bots pruning their posts, a separate "discussions" tab, and "history" tab to allow you to rollback your changes. Just some ideas but its probably a good idea to take from the best

Thanks for your feedback guys.

The current WIKI was put together very rapidly to be ready for the VE V4 API release. I agree the front page is a bit poor, I mannually put a list of "fav" pages just to make it look like something was there. I'm considering upgrading to something with a few more features and I know the ViaVE guys are keen to integrate the login.

"wikipedia has some great tools like bots pruning their posts", well clearly that is me

Keep the feedback comming. Personnally I find myself going to the wiki serveral times a week either get code for myself or to help someone else.

John.

It would also be nice to see NEW entries as well.

Actually that would be 1000% more useful then the set of "fav" on the front page.

You can subscribe to the WIKI rss. I'm using Outlook 2007 and it comes up like a mail folder whenever something new is added or a change is made.

Just need to get it to actually show the text not just the title. Better then nothing I guess.
