in the document of Windows Live Messenger Add-In API,

It said: "The add-in may also change the local user's status, usertile, personal status message, and friendly name."

I want to realize a add-in to change my friendlyname automatically.

i change the string: MessengerClient.LocalUser.FriendlyName, once I compile, the VS output: Microsoft.Messenger.User.FriendlyName cannot be assigned to, it is read only.

Any methods to solve my problem Thank you.

you can use MessengerClient.AddInProperties.FriendlyName

MessengerClient.AddInProperties.FriendlyName is the friendly name of the add-in assembly itself. I'm looking for this solution too, but It appears to me that it's a dead-end unless/until MS releases an update where the LocalUser.FriendlyName property is settable as well as gettable. I'd love to hear otherwise if anyone knows.

As far as I know, this isn't available, yet. It may not ever as well. At least the more important bits are available. Now if they'd just open up the contact list...
