After hours of searching the web and to no avail, I am posting this message since I am trying to find a way to determine the status of any MSN Messenger user. As mentioned in previous posts, both AOL and Yahoo allow you to submit an HTTP request, which includes a user name, in order to determine web presence. Microsoft provides the MessengerAPI, but it seems to me that you have to have an account and you can only check the status of a user provided that the user has been added to your contacts.

I would like to have the ability to check the status of Messenger users like I can with AOL and Yahoo without having to have an account or having to create one.

There is currently no way to do that. I still hope they will have this available some day.
