I was wondering if there is any way to export part of the virtual earth model to a 3D modeling program such as rhino, formz, or sketchup. If this is possible that would be great!!!!!!

Right now there is not way to import or export 3d for VE. There are rumours that soon MS will support importing 3d models but I cant see them ever letting you export 3d models due to the licensing.

If you are interested in buying 3d city scapes I suggest you contact blom (the company behind VE's birdseye views) as they offfer these:

Would be nice if you mentioned I put you in touch

Thanks so much! I'm a student so it will most likely be out of my price range but I will inquire and will definitely tell them you put me in touch. Also - do you know if there is a way to measure (especially in the z direction) in virtual earth besides with the graphic scale on the bottom

Hi

The quickest way to measure is my using the line drawing tool on http://local.live.com, this will tell you the lengthn of each line you draw but will only work in 2d

I believe the API has a way of measuring the height of 3D items however there isn't currently a straight forward way of accessing this method. I hear that VE6 has a lot of additions, who knows what it might have.
