Am trying to create a Top Stories news feed to be combined with a virtual map (Virtual Earth) so that each time the top stories are fed, it pops up on the Virtual Earth, showing where the news came from. I have used Rss and Virtual earth without success and on the brink of giving up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, could you share your mashup and post the URL for it here so we can have a look at it. Thanks!

I created a Google Maps out of something like this:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info _id=gGThvN_62xG2JH50ZoQMOQ

I was trying a mashup but not successful. What I want to do is:

a) Get RSS feeds from a news site

b) Convert it into GeoRss

c) Get the data overlayed on a Map (Googlemap )

d) Output

So that when a news feed comes in, it pops up on a the map as pushins that when clicked will reveal the title and some abstract of the news. I have quite successfully tried with GoogleMaps but I want to test it out with Popfly. Any help is appreciated.

The mashup is not done yet - failed several times so I deleted them.

Cheers

Ah in Popfly the workflow would be something like this:

RSS Reader -> GeoNames (get long / lat for a location -> Virtual Earth

Have you got an RSS feed in mind and i can try creating a mashup for you

Thanks

Thanks Andy

I am looking towards creating a popfly of Google Top stories displayed on Virtual Map. the RSS is as thus:

http://news.google.com/news ned=us&topic=h&output=rss

Also, I need to ask you this: After previewing the popfly resulting mashup, how does one go back to previous screen I find this quite bothersome as I lose my mashups after I click preview (had to click on mashup tab and restart again since the backbrowse button doesnt work).

Thanks for the assistance.

I might not be understand what you are asking but it might be...so:

there should be a link at the bottom of the preview page thats says "Customize" that should take you back to the mashup creation page.

I hope i helped.

The URL http://feed.feedburner.com/GISDevelopment doesn't seem to contain an RSS feed, instead i get an error can't find server page.

Could there of been a typo in the URL

Andy and Michael here---

The basic answer to this thread is:

Use logic like this:

RSS Reader -> GeoNames (get long / lat for a location -> Virtual Earth

And use an RSS feed that contains geo locations.
