Is it possible to send the user an email address when only the UUID is available

The reason I ask is this: when a user registers on my website using windows live id - I would like to avoid having them create a contact email address or a contact form. so if the live service provided an email account such as :
users_unique_uuid_number@live.com or something similar - it would help services notify users without making the user fill up a contact form.

Users on my site have asked me why they need to provide my site with an email address during registration when they are already logged in with their "hotmail" account.

G'day

I dont believe it is possible to send users emails at this time.

However, I do think that this should become available, In-fact I was just about to ask when I seen your post.

MSN used to use a special link to send emails to users anonymously (from profiles etc.)

Perhaps a %USERID%.%APPID%@someMSdomain.com virtual address

I think that whilst we care about our users privacy, it is important that we are able to contact them.

Eg. a user has not been online for 6 months, Do we keep the stored info Delete it without letting them know etc.

I don't really want to store users email addresses (nor ask them after they sign in).

I think allowing virtual email redirection is one of the best moves we can make at the moment WLID Team!

Thanks,

Joshua Davison

Really great feedback I'll pass that onto the team.

Apologies if I have missed something here, but this is a windows live site. I have not given it my email address but I receive notification emails when someone replies to a question.

How does the site know my email address, if not from my windows live login

If this site does gets my email address from my windows live login, why cant other sites that use windows live

These forums are an official Microsoft-website, and the notifications are handled by Windows Live Alerts (WLA). WLA gets your e-mailaddress from the WLID-database, and thus can contact you.

Therefore by signing up to one Microsoft site using live ID your are agreeing to share with all Microsoft sites that use Live ID. Would you know if this is just email address or other information also

As far as I know, all Microsoft-affiliated website (Microsoft.com, Windows Live, MSN, Zune, Xbox) have access to your data as you entered into your Windows Live Account (it's website has been updated recently, looking good folks Wink), all non-Microsoft properties only receive a UUID like us Web Auth-users do, a difference being that those partners can co-brand.

If you want to know for sure, read the privacy policy.
