My Understanding of What this was designed for is the desktop application end. It allows the creator of rich client apps to have a simple login system. I have checked and tourtered myself with searching for API and any info that would allow me to Authenticate through a webpage. As far as I know the only Authentication availible for a web page is through the Contact Control. Although it does not allow the entire page to be Authenticated or password protected.

The older Service 'Passport' does allow it you can read more about that Here.

Currently, there is no publicly available technology to enable web applications to authenticate Windows Live users. We are aware of the demand for this feature and are investigating it. Stay tuned to this forum and the Live ID blog for future announcements.

In the meantime, what scenarios do you envision for this type of technology

Hi,

for example, I want to create virtual earth mashup for finding locations of my live friends. I have everything done, but without authentication it is hard to keep data clean. What would be nice is to have check if user have live ID and if this ID is bounded to gamertag.

But you can find alot of other apps demanding authentication probably.

Adam
