Hey guys, I just put together what i hope is a really good reference for anyone wanting to change the look and feel of the V4 virtual earth dashboard.

Let me know if I'm missing anything.

Fantastic John - exactly what I am trying to do. Can you give a hint on how to do the following

I want to change the dashboard to not show the 3d option as many users find it is not good for my area and dont want to download the active x. I want to show just the 2d, +/- slider and road,aerial and hybrid keys. Any ideas

Thanks

Outstanding!
Nice to have all the pieces identified for me so I don't need to do the work myself with firebug.

Sorry Crafty, I meant to answer your question but was so blown away by John's excellent page I forgot.

I put this together from something in the www.viaVirtualEarth.com wiki (I think):

<!-- This bit of sneakiness gets rid of the extra controls -->
<style type="text/css">
.header {visibility: hidden;}
#navAction_OrthoMapViewX {visibility: hidden;}
#navAction_mapViewCellX {visibility: hidden;}
#navAction_mapStyleCellX{visibility: hidden;}
div .dashboardContainerDivX {background-color: transparent;border-color: transparent;}
#obliqueNotification {visibility: hidden;}
#Map_vemessagepanel, #threeDNotification {visibility:hidden;}
</style>

The first line hides the 2d/3d header entirely; the other non commented lines (I used X to change the name, effectively commenting it out) is the birdseye "help popup (oblique) and a couple other popups. Which is all I originally needed to do, and maybe all you want to do, too. Except this keeps the birdseye button intact. Anyway, play with that.

Cheers,
Greg

You see now you have all the ID it makes it easer to do all this.

The answer is yes I spent about 4 hours with Firebug getting all that data, 3D mode is fun to figure out in firefox!

I decided in the class column to put the exact class used in the VE css for the image as I assume most people would simply want to change it to there own image at the same dimensions.

I may add some thin gridlines though, it seems a little hard to follow

John.

Re: Article: Redesign the Virtual Earth Dashboard

The formatting does come out a little squished on my machine in both browsers, especially the notes column off on the far right. But who cares The info is all there... it's awsome!

Many thanks Greg (and John)

That works a treat just one final question...what line would I add to also hide the greyed out birdseye button

Many thanks to you both

According to John's kick-*** reference, add the following to the sample I gave above:
navAction_ObliqueMapView{visibility:false}

Cheers,
Greg

HI Greg

Tried that but it still wont hide it! Not to worry though I can live with it being disabled.

Many thanks guys

Re: Article: Redesign the Virtual Earth Dashboard

Hi John,

The code you posted for hiding the 2D and 3D buttons does not work for v.5 of the map control. (I know you created it for v.4). Would you happen to know how to do the same for v.5

Any help appreciated. Thanks for all your work!

Jim

Re: Article: Redesign the Virtual Earth Dashboard

A minute with firebug shows that most of the css names are the same but have MSVE_ prefixed to them.

Re: Article: Redesign the Virtual Earth Dashboard

lndwhr

Greg,

That did it. Thanks for the timely reply!

.MSVE_header {visibility: hidden;}

Re: Article: Redesign the Virtual Earth Dashboard

Thanks for this good source. I just want to remove the 2D 3D buttons & Road,Aerial, Hybrid links I tried this. Try is just for Aerial.

Code Snippet

<style type="text/css">

.MSVE_header {visibility: hidden;}

#navAction_AerialMapStyle (visibility: hidden;)

#navAction_mapStyleCell.AerialMapStyle{visibility: hidden;}

</style>

This removes the 2D 3D buttons. But failed to remove Aerial button. Tried in many ways, but no success. Can anyone tell, where am i going wrong. What changes do i ned to make to remove Road, Aerial, Hybrid map styles from dashboard.

Thanks
