Are there any good samples I have gone through the SDK, and I'm mostly through getting my first alerts working... however at this point I'm getting a partnerUID missing error. While the reference is informative, some sample/quickstarts would be really handy.

Hi Bryan,

I'm guessing you're using an invalid value to identify the contact you're trying to send the alert to.

If you answer a couple of questions/ assumptions on my part might be able to point you in the right direction

1. You are getting this error when you are sending the alert

2. Are you using deliver or groupdeliver

3. What are you using in the "to" field for the list of contacts to send the email to

4. How are you uniquely identifiying the ppl who've signed up for the alert

Thanks your assistance (feel free to contact me at bryanbak@hotmail.com)

1. yes.

2. using Deliver

3. my TO field has my hotmail account (which I've already given permissions to via the alerts site): bryanbak@hotmail.com

4. what do you mean which field I know my one account so I'm accessing it by my email account rightnow.

Should I be using the unique ID it shows in the admin site for the users which have given permission (which at this point is only my own) instead

my error code was: 325

Invalid PartnerUID.

Hi Bryan,

Each user is identified by the userID that you pass into InitiateSignup...so depending on what you use there will be what you have to pass into the contact details for deliver. This could be an email address, a unique number made up by you, a "username" that then gets associated with the liveid they then actually signup with.

So to check if you're using the correct id call initiatesignup and if you get a responseStatusCode of 326 you are using the correct id.

Hope this helps.

Bronwen.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Everything worked just fine!

Ultimately what tripped me up was that initially didn't sign up via the standard InitiateSignup

I signed up directly through the alerts site. And as such, I didn't realize it had assigned the unique ID.

On top of it, PartnerUID got me thinking it should be a PartnerID not a User ID.

Well... everything is working well now. Thanks.

Hi Bryan,

Glad to hear that worked! I found the signatures a bit confusing the first time I used them too.

I'm planning on writing a getting started with alerts article for ViaWindowsLive when i get some free cycles..so hopefully that will also help a few others out Smile

yeah... the "partner" part of PartnerUID just through me for a loop... but its all good... actually when you responded I headed over to ViawindowsLive, but the Alerts portion was a little thin at the moment.

Yes..ViaWindowsLive will get better as more people contribute. Had 5 articles submitted in the last couple of weeks but not on Alerts. If you beat me to it..feel free to contribute you're own article Smile
