Hi, I am trying to use VE 3D . I go to http://maps.live.com/ and click 3D icon - I follow the instructions. I get the window with the progrss bar at the bottom. It says 'Status: Initialization' and it does not go away. The progress bar does not move at all. Basically, it stays frozen like this - no log messages in windows. But when I kill the process I get 'Application hang message' in the log, but nothing else.

Could someone help with this please

Yep, I ran into a few installation issues myself. First off, ControlPanel-->Add/Remove-->Remove any prior installations of Virtual Earth 3D (Beta), and then try the installer. If that fails, you can manually download WIC (Windows Imaging Component) and the 6MB VE 3D install package and run it locally. That's what I ended up doing and it worked alright. There are a few other forum threads regarding this topic, so you could do a search on that as well. Hope that helps.

Wow...That was quick reply. Thanks.

I was not able to uninstall anything as I could not insatll it in the first place.

I got the WIC - thanks

Were you refereing to this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ LinkId=72053 when you mentioned VE 3D install package

Thanks Again, Tomek

That's the one! (5.8 MB or so) Install WIC first and you should be all set. Down the line for what I assume will be a future release, keep in mind you may have to do the manual uninstall step. Last note, there are some issues running the 3D control behind a corporate firewall, but it should work just fine from a personal machine (regardless of a home firewall/router config).

I followed your instructions: got WIC here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=8E011506-6307-445B-B950-215DEF45DDD8&displaylang=en

installed it, went to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ LinkId=72053 and installed VE 3D, tried to view the map in 3D at maps.live.com and it asks to install the 3D feature. The window hangs as before.

Would you have any other suggestions

Hmmm...the WIC link looks correct, but I'm not as sure about the VE installer. I noticed that the date was different on it and the file size is off from the one I installed awhile back (I have a 4/10/07 msi). You might want to search in this forum for related threads, especially the ones Duncan Lawler has weighed in on...and also check the installer log That may point you to where the problem is (that's where I saw mine was dying on some of the fwlink calls).
