Being new to the forum, I did not know how to navigate it. I am going to ask again for the same help. I cannot open my internet explorer 7's internet options. I have done everything possible that I can find. When command line and interpreter was mentioned, I was lost. I need more elementary directions.

I think it was Urbsman that replied. I simply did not know how to find his reply.

Jessyxvxv,

Did you find solution to this very irritating problem I also have tried "opening from control panel" "disabling firewall" "disabling pop up blockrs" . . you name it. I use Firefox but on occasion need IE. I have IE 7, Windows XP Professional, etc.

Bummer. Working Girl

same problem ... internet options does not open from control panel. But even greater problem is I have no tool bar in IE7. There is just a top line with the URL address. No history no favoriates, no tools button. I was hoping to open internet options to see if there were some option to turn on and off the menu line. Any thoughts

Re: cannot open internet options

gtw

same problem

also no menu line in IE7. just the top line with the back and forward arrows and address box for URL. No file, edit, view, favoriates, tools, help line. Was hoping to get to internet options to see if this line was able to be turned on and off. Need help getting this line back. Any thoughts or similar experience

Re: cannot open internet options

I fixed mine. Uninstall and delete and redownload and reinstall. Make sure IE6 is not on there neither. Microsoft if they have a new version you should get rid of the older version.

listen guys the dude who said totally unistall IE7 and then re-install was correct and also go under spybot.com first and down load this program it will correct a lot of errors and remove things you never thought were on your computer. spybot is free and they only ask for donations to keep running (what a life saver) you dont have to donate but what i learned you would not mind to send a few bucks. after you uninstall IE7 re-start computer then when back booted up go under internet options set privacy to medium and clear files, history and cache. I would also when unistalling IE7 delete any desktop icons also ie: trouble shooter ect. re-install IE7 only from microsoft.com. lol good luck holla back 1joker

Re: cannot open internet options

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem and the way that I have solved it is this:

Firstly open My Computer, select Tools and then Folder Options, click the view tab and then select show hidden files and folders

(remember to go and change it back again afterwards)

The file you are looking for is: inetcpl.cpl

this is located: C:\Windows\ie7

the size and date of this file is: 350kb - 03 August 2004

you need to single click on this file and go to Edit and Copy

then go to this location: C:\Windows\System32 go to Edit and Paste you will get asked whether you want to replace the file, as

long as the file that you are replacing is larger in size then that is fine, you should then be ok in opening your internet options.

I think this is stemming from a Windows update as it seems to be happening to me daily at the moment, I think Microsoft must be

sending us Vista stuff instead of XP or something. I do know it is not a virus or spyware as I run Panda and my system is totally

clear of any virus, spyware or adware.

I really hope this helps anyway.

Hi

I just tried copying and pasting like you said but it wouldn't let me paste .. the paste was greyed out. When I looked at the file in system32 you were right again .. it did say vista. As an alternative I created a shortcut on the desktop to be able to get at the inetcpl.cpl so now atleast I can get at that. Since you seem so knowleadgeable would you have any idea as to why my cd drive opens and closes constantly, that just happened as well are the two connected with maybe an upgrade

Re: cannot open internet options

Redipss

Rottiesloveme - this worked perfectly for me. Thanks a bunch. Although I could not edit and paste - I just pasted the inetcpl file into system32 - as I stated it worked great. Thanks again!!
