What is stopping Virtual Earth 3D from downloading/installing?

I HAVE A NEW COMPUTER WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH HARDWARE TO RUN VIRTUAL EARTH 3D but while the 2D maps work..the 3D  freezes up my computer  when I click on it,EXCEPT on rare occasions when for some reason the 3D choses to work. I have checked all the drivers and such..I am a newbie so I don't know all the proper terms and such but I have followed all the  directions in the help section for the Virtual Earth program

Can anyone put me in touch with Bill Gates...I am sure he would know what to do.  I have been around and around on phones to Microsoft with no luck..something is hanging the program up and I would like to know what it is and what I can do to fix this.

Unfortunaly from his post it sounds like you have pretty much nothing to go with the current version. There is nothing tricky about the 3D stuff install wise but it sounds like your environment and VE arn't getting along.

I'm suprised there isn't debug information being outputed. If you were to run the stand alone code from say the ghost demo or the 3D navigator stuff would the same error occur You may get some better insights

I have nothing sorry.....it works on every computer i have tried once i had all the correct pre-req software installed.

OK..after checking out the link you sent ..I am back with more questions..who is duncan lawler and how can he help me

and it seems that link you sent wants me to spend $ I don't have...the ve3d worked and now it doesn't so thats isn't going to change by throwing money at it..I might just be putting more gunk in the system...I can tell that you know the buzz words and that puts me at a disadvantage..I do want to learn what your talking about...for instance..what is a ghost demo and as for error messages...there aren't any being displayed..I know that would make it a lot easier to trubleshoot this..everyone is busy with their lives..so it is always a surprise to get a response from anyone to my questions.

If you haven't already, remove any firewall / anti-spyware programs you have installed. Also if you could post screenshots of all your running processes inside your task manager (press ctrl + alt + del, followed by selecting "task manager") I'd like to see what you have running on your box right now

It's difficult to debug this remotely, but there are many things that might interfere with the control loading correctly.

In addition to security programs, many new systems come loaded with lots of unnessecary toolbars and other browser extentions that might be messing you up. I would go through and uninstall any browser extensions you're not actually using.

If that still doesn't help, you can turn on logging and post your log, that might provide enough information to see what's going on. Go to the following directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Virtual Earth 3D (on Vista it's slightly different, it's under Users/LocalLow).

You should see a file named user.config. Open in any text editor (like notepad) and add the following lines immediately after <Microsoft.MapPoint.Rendering3D.Properties.Settings>:

<setting name="Logging" serializeAs="String">

<value>True</value>

</setting>

When you start the app the next time, a log file will be created in the directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Virtual Earth 3D

Post the log file when you're done.

in the address C:\Documents and Settlings\"Your User Name"......what name do I put there..this is my computer no else uses it and I never set an adminstrator password...is that the reason why when I type in the address I get a message that it can't be found ..check your spelling..

navigate to c:\ in windows explorer (shortcut winkey + e)

Are you XP or vista I'm guessing you are XP.

You should see a Documents and settings folder right

In that are all the users of your system, if your not sure who you are follow each one down the path and you will find the VE 3D stuff.

I run Vista so for me it was in:

C:\Users\John\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Virtual Earth 3D

I THINK I NEED TO DOWNLOAD VIRTUAL EARTH ,GET THE ICON ON MY DESKTOP, BEFORE I SEE VE3D STUFF IN THAT DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS FOLDER.

OK.... SO I USE XP...

I REC'VD MY VISTA UPGRADE DISKS IN THE MAIL A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO BUT A PAL SUGGESTED THAT I WAIT UNTIL THE 'DUST SETTLES' BEFORE INSTALLING.

ONE MORE THING..WHEN I USED WINKEY + E, I GOT AN OUT OF CONTROL CASCADE of document WINDOWS

what might have caused that

I am grateful for your help and I learned about other things that I will need to know about in

the future...altho I didn't acutally use your directions it is good to know that there are people out there who still enjoy helping others..

the way I finally got the VE3D to work was by uninstalling my yahoo tool bar..you might want to pass that one along.
