Hi

I recently upgraded my VE code to v4, and whilst the 2d stuff still works perfectly well (even the Birds' Eye View works fine), all i get in 3D view is a green blur (i.e. just the globe) regardless of my zoom level. It doesn't matter where i look at in the world - whether it be here in the UK or anywhere in the US. It's almost as if the 3D tiles aren't loading, as the navigation control and the orientation widget are both present. I just can't see any details on anything - very frustrating!

The 3D examples on the maps.live.com (i.e. Tower of London and the Millennium Wheel) do exactly the same thing, so it's not my code at fault.

Has anyone any ideas as to what might be going on

Thanks

Spencer

What browser are you running this on What are you specs

I'm running it on IE version 6.0.2900.2180 with a 128-bit Cipher strength under XP Service Pack 2

Machine specs are completely up to scratch, and i know it's not machine dependent, as the guys in our IT department haven't been able to get it to work either....

Please post it up somewhere it can be publically reached

What you describe is consistent with the control not being able to load any tiles. Are you behind a firewall or proxy server Sometimes the default IE settings do not work from managed code. You can try explicitly setting the proxy in the IE settings window, or tweak the proxy settings of the control by going to options->3D settings and selecting the Network Settings tab.

Yes, I am behind a pretty standard corporate firewall/proxy. I know there was another article on the forums (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=996333&SiteID=1) which deals specifically with this situation, and that it listed a large number of servers to enter onto the 'allow' list. Do you think doing that will solve this problem

You can give it a try and let us know thanks

Re: No maps in 3d view!

The reason why I asked is because getting stuff done in this place is not a quick or easy task (in fact, one request can take weeks) if it involves network/server stuff, as i work in business of 1800 staff with an overworked IT team - if anyone else had a suggestion which could have circumvented me needing to request changes to the firewall or proxy then I'd have tried that first...

Re: No maps in 3d view!

I've now been checking this subject out for a few days with our IT team, and it seems that the problem is a Proxy Authentication (407) issue. Is there any way of supplying credentials to a proxy via Virtual Earth Without authentication, the MapPoint 3D addon is disallowed from retrieving the 3D tiles...

maybe you just dont use your stupid proxy, instead, use a direct connection, if not possible, your coworkers cant look at the 3d-view, but that isnt a drawback, coworkers shall work, not have fun with 3d maps

Re: No maps in 3d view!

I know there is a way to pass proxies when using Mappoint Web Service, thats through the specification.proxy object.  In Virtual Earth, I'm not sure as I'd have to do more research on that

dude,

my boss complained about exactly the same problem with people using proxies in combination with VE, so in the next 2 or 3 days i will have a look at the issue, and hopefully find a way to solve that ***.

I have exactly the same problem, all i get is a green blob. As previously posted this is definately due to MapPoint 3D requests require proxy authentication when PC is behind proxy.

I have done this for MapPoint Webservice API by supplying the login credentials etc for our company proxy but I think to do this for VE will probaly require a machine.config change on each PC that has 3D installed and sits behind a proxy [if windows PC]. Unless you can get your companies network guys to add the 3D servers as exceptions on proxy.
