I'm trying to install Virtual Earth 3D, but a seriours error occoured immediately after I run the setup program. I don't know why. I have refered the FAQ on maps.live.com, it said the installation requires a high video display device. My videa display device is NIV Force 7200. I think that's enough to install it. Any other resons My OS: Windows XP. I can install it on an old PC, but can't on my new hp notebook. Thanks.

Where are you grabbing your MSI installer from There were a couple of bad versions of VE 3D when it was first released and and your issue sounds exactly like what happened when I ran a bad verison. If I remember correctly installing from either maps.live.com or interactive SDK should work.

Hope that helps,

There are a few threads floating around in the forum regarding this, so you can search along the "3d install" lines and you should find the relevant ones. Check you installer log -- that will often tell you which portion of the install is failing consistently. If memory serves, I had to manually install WIC (Windows Imaging Component) as well as first uninstall the 3D VE Beta I had previously installed. For laptops, I have also seen comments that dual display setups have had adverse effects on the 3D ActiveX control.

And, if you happen to be behind a corporate firewall where all outbound http traffic must be authenticated, forget about 3D all together!

We are in a situation even worse than just a corporate firewall......

We would like to run an Intranet app that requires the 3D control. All of the PC's are totally locked down and we need to do the install through the PC management group. Just using the MSI file from the download site does not work. It seems to require pre req's and I have not found any documentation indicating what needs to be there first. Once you have the MSI file and run it it seems to be calling home for more stuff which is failing in our environment. Are there any instructions on how to set it up for an SMS unattended install

The 3D control requires the .NET framework 2.0 and Windows Imaging Components redistributable to be installed before the control MSI is installed.

Both of these are available as redistributables on the Microsoft download center.

Note that there are seperate versions for x86 and x64 systems. Both are already present on Vista.

After you install these two, the control MSI should work.
