Hey All,

I am trying to use the site: to scope the results from the particular site domains.

ex: "media reporting" (site:bbc.co.uk OR site: cnn.com).

I want to know is there any limits on the site: scope operator. As in max number of applicable scopes.

I know that the first 10 words are used as keywords for the search.

Thanks,

Puneet.H

it is not so much about the number of site: used in your query but more about the overall strutcture and complexity of your query. there are a number of factors that could have impact on what you actually can do, e.g. number of words in your query, number of advanced operators (such as OR and siteSmile, as well as over length of the query. so there is really no definite max number of site: you can use - you might need to do some experiements. i think if you have 10 site: or less generally you are okay. when you have more it might depend how the actual query looks like.

I did try the Windows application code sample and tried it for scoping the results from about 10 sites and it worked fine. We would be searching based on the community suggested sites (after approval of course ), but this is likely going to be a big number. Also we would be searching certain domain partners specifed ( which could be a lower number). So based on any certain number on the limits would help in considering of the design of the application.

unfortunately it is difficult to have a "certain" or "definite" max since there are also other factors that can have influence on how many site: you can use. best is to experiment with actual/sample queries with planned site:'s to see how it would work for you.
