Can someone please explain the reason why with XAML, the root must equal the base class of code behind file

And if that is the case, how can I set properties on my class from the XAML given that the XAML only references the base class and below

Some of XAML's inner workings are still a bit foggy to me. :)

This is a limitation of Xaml's markup compiler in .Net 3.0.

See this previous thread for work arounds.
We don't yet have plans to address this issue, but would love your feedback/scenarios.
