Demented Devil

Hi there,

I have just installed the ADO Entity Framework for VS2008 Beta 2 and having read the information regarding the differences between this and the existing LINQ-to-SQL I'd like to say "well done and thanks very much for your hard work" - the abstraction of many:many relationships has given me many headaches over the years - indeed my current project makes no attempt to hide the junction tables at all!

With reference to my current project - I imported the database schema for this system into a new EF diagram (213 table, 61 view, 1044 stored procedures) and all is well - incidentally it's also much faster than importing into LINQ-to-SQL which is surprising ;-)

However if I try to delete a table from the diagram (I have 4 imported in error) the VS locks up - it manages to repaint itself and perhaps it's just taking it's time but after 15 minutes it still shows no sign of completing the request! I can send the model diagram if required!

Many thanks,

Hi! Adrian,

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

The issue you are running into seems like a bug in the designer. Please can you send me a copy of your .edmx file (sanagama --at-- microsoft --dot-- com) or attach a copy in the forum and also provide your repro steps Do you delete a specific table or just any table

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the incovenience.

Regards,

Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,

More information on this issue - seems that the system has not crashed - it just takes a long long time!

I left it running and eventually it comes back to life! Apparently constraint validation for 10947 elements is taking a while...

I'll get the stopwatch out and delete another table!

Hi! Adrian,

Thanks for sending me the .edmx file. This seems like a performance issue with validation in the designer and we have filed a bug to get this fixed in a subsequent release.

Sanjay
