I have run across a problem and I hope it just this one. But I have a deployed VB2005 application fully functional, no errors that suddenly have errors, now that I have ORCAS installed on my PC. I went back to add a small minor tweak to a form and when. Program test well, with this tweak but I went out to look another form and it will not display at all. It is a simple form which displays a datagrid table of one of the files. There is nothing great or complicated about this small 400 line form. Allmost all of my other forms are larger and much more complicated that will display but for some reason this one as 5 warnings. They are for TextboxColumn1 - 5, thus refusing to display the form: example below is the warning message for column1 the rest are the same.

One or more errors encountered while loading the designer. The errors are listed below. Some errors can be fixed by rebuilding your project, while others may require code changes.

The variable 'DataGridViewTextBoxColumn1' is either undeclared or was never assigned.
at System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.Error(IDesignerSerializationManager manager, String exceptionText, String helpLink)
at System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.DeserializeExpression(IDesignerSerializationManager manager, String name, CodeExpression expression)
at System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.CodeDomSerializerBase.DeserializeExpression(IDesignerSerializationManager manager, String name, CodeExpression expression)

What is going on. All I'm doing on this form is displaying a datagrid which is done on many times throughout the app and with much more coding included with them...

jbassmanp,

It seems like the declaration for the datagridview textcolumns got deleted somehow. Are they declared in the form Do you have a version of the form in SourceCodeControl that you can see what has changed If the form is simple enough can delete the control and recreate it

I'm not aware of this type of problem in the windows forms designer. If you can post the form in a response, or enter a connect bug and attach the form, we can take a closer look at it.

Help this helps track down the problem,

Sorry Adam I was busy with work got back to this question just recently. I have found that the problem happens now with any an all programs using datagrid views. It is random however, and can be corrected by a reload of the application or sometime running the app. in Visual Studio which somehow reloads it (this works 20% of the time). Which is not good, but for some reason since installing 2008 older application just seem to loose definitions of the datagrid view. If you have done any editing of them (this i'm quessing as a few untouched never blow up). What I would love to have is a refresh key to quickly refresh /reload a form instead of closing app. and reloading it so I can work on it...

I had the same problem with data grid view forms Even though the forms would not display correctly in designer mode, the program would run correctly in debug mode and would build an .exe file that ran correctly. However, I would not be able to ever update the program in its current state. I noticed that the Data Sources window was blank. I tried to populate it with my database file but it was not possible to do so. I finally stumbled in a way to fix the problem. In Solution explorer, I expanded to show all files and deleted all .xsd and data set designer files. I was then able to populate the Data Sources window, I then opened the new .xsd files and configured new queries. After that all of my forms opened and there were only a few name changes to be made in the vb code for each form.
