    - silverlight and xamlreader in orcas express c# i have recently started to play around with silverlight in the c# express orcas development environment. by referencing dlls in the silverlight 1.1 alpha installation c# express orcas can successfully compile the silverlight application. i have been searching online for methods of dynamically generating elements to use in silverlight, such as new storyboard elements. i have found that it is possibly to do so using XamlReader.Load () which is located in System.Windows.Markup. however, after using System.Windows.Markup i do not have access to XamlReader. it simply isn't available and throws a compile error. I am using the 1.1 apha version of silverlight, and have .NET 3.5 pre-release installed. i have no idea why XamlReader isn't available to me. every example i have found online thus far references XamlReader and i cannot find any information on how to resolve my problem. any help is greatly appreciated.     - Compression behavior and MTOM I have be trying out the WS-Compression behavior from weblogs.shockbyte.com.ar/ rodolfof/archive/2006/04/06/5632.aspx Being compressed data, I wonder if it would more efficient if MTOM encoding is used instead of text encoding. However, I found that MTOM encoding doesn't encode the base64 encoding compressed binary as MTOM binary attachment. It remains as base64 on the wire.     - Problem with dbml tool Is there a simple way to make the .dbml.diagram file update based on changes I make to my database in SQL Server Management Studio Express I tried to simply delete all the tables and then drag them back from the Server Explorer, but when I do this, I lose all of the lines representing the foreign keys. So what I have been doing is deleting the dbml file, then adding a new Linq to SQL file, and then dragging the tables onto the dbml file. This isn't tragic, but it's a bit of a pain.     - exposing a WCF endpoint externally with a different address I have a problem with a WCF project i am working on. I have created the service, and created a basicHttp endpoint. The problem that i have, is that internaly the server is fbi-test.orgname.internal but we also have it exposed to the world, and it is exposed as fbi-test.orgurl.com. This is a problem because in the WSDL file, the schema is written down as SchemaLocation="http://fbi-test.orgname.internal/Service.svc xsd=xsd0" And so when someone externally tries to bind to it, it will try to look up those xsd definitions and it will fail. I realise that i may need to create 2 endpoints (one internally, and one externally) but my problem is how to define the WSDL file so that the xsd urls are correct. I tried define "ExternalMetadataLocation" as "http://fbi-test.orgurl.com/Service.svc" for the serviceMetaData behaviour, however all it does is redirect you to that URL and will never generate a WSDL file.     - 'Window Service' and App.Config file Hi everyone, (Sorry to post it again, my mistake ) I have a server program and a client program that works well when I was hosting the server program in console self-hosting screen. However after I switched the server program to be hosted in Window Service( Control Panesl-> Admin Tools-> Services), the server program is sucessfully installed as a Window Service, but when I have tried to use "netstat -a" in command mode, it opens no port, the clinet program can't connect to the server. Again when I went back to the self hosting in console mode, and use "netstat -a" in command window, the server port appears on the list successfully, client program can access the server program. It seems that in Window Service, the hosting service just can't read the setting in App.Config file. By using breakpoint and debug watch window in Visual Studio, serviceHost.BaseAddresses is 0 when I was using Window Service hosting, serviceHost.BaseAddresses is 1 when I am using Console Self Hosting (This means that the server porgram can't read the service address form the app.config file).     - IOException problems... I just tried building it in Orcas and was able to reproduce the same exception... It's happening with trying to change the Frame source (SettingsPane). Here's the exception information for further investigation... I also tried the Uri.TryCreate method and that threw the same exception when trying to load the Frame (so it's returning true)... IOException Details Also, one thing I forgot to mention ... in the same if-statement, I had the same try-catch statement with a NullReferenceException in the catch statement but I changed it to IOException when I was getting IOExceptions because I had to change my code in the try block and if the Frame control couldn't find the XAML page it was looking for in the try block, it throws the IOException. So, from reading this, would you conclude that changing the exception in the catch() statement after running/building an app would mess up the code somehow In my StackTrace it's showing two TryCatchWhen's in there according to another person on the CodeProject forums.     - ListView vs ItemsControl - ClipToBounds works differently Hello, Can anyone help to explain why the ListView works differently from the ItemsControl in this particular example What I'm trying to accomplish is a ListView where each ListViewItem consist of a Grid with two columns that should adjusts their widths as the size of the resizable ListView changes. The columns should contain a TextBlock each, which clips its contents to the containing elements bounds and shows a CharacterEllipsis for TextTrimming. This is my problem, I dont get the ClipToBounds-property to work within the ListView. The example below shows how the same Grid construction (Grid with two columns and a TextBlock in each). The TextBlock behaves differently using an ItemsControl instead of a ListView.     - WPF and browser apps Hi Philip, I'm happy you got it working (so far). Like you're indicating, one of the obstacles to overcome is to identify what can (and cannot) run in partial trust over the internet, and then how to work around those issues. I haven't officially documented what I have found so far, and can't give you much general help here, but I have made a couple of posts before on the subject (search for my name I guess). When you have specific issues, don't hesitate to ask. Wishful thinking: it would be nice if a web site/page existed that addressed XBAP specific issues/problems that developers face. thanks Lee but when I installed VS2005 there was a pop up in Vista saying that it was incompatible.

I use VS2005 Academic (I do some work at a University).

Should I ignore this warning and install or are there any updates/patches I need

Got the same popup, but am working with VS 2005 for several weeks now without having trouble.

Well, I can't get the profiler to work, but hey, thats life ;)

You should install VS 2005 SP1 and the SP1 Vista Update beta.
