I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 with the General Developer settings. Can someone from the Cider team list the available keyboard shortcuts available in the Cider Designer

Two that I am interested in...

1. Switching between the Design tab and XAML tab. In the ASP.NET desiger I can use the Ctrl-PageDown. That doesn't work in Beta 2.

2. Activate the Vertical split, Horizontal split and Expand Pane buttons on the designer. I looked in Tools\Options\Keyboard and didn't see them listed.

Walt,

The "View.ViewDesigner" command allows you to switch between Design and XAML tabs. In the C# keyboard bindings it is bound to Shift+F7. Unfortunately it is not bound to anything in the General keyboard settings, and it is too late in the product cycle to change that.

You can however easily bind it to Shift+F7 yourself under Tools\Options\Keyboard - just type "ViewDesigner" into the "Show commands containing:" edit field and assign the shortcut to that command.

As for 2), these buttons don't have VS commands associated with them, and therefore there are no keyboard shortcuts available for them.

Thanks Marco

I just needed to know the command name. I've got View.ViewDesigner bound to a key combination and I'm happy.

Two more questions:

1. Will you consider adding SplitHorizontal SplitVertical and ViewPane as commands

2. Are there any other Cider specific settings in Tools\Options\Keyboard

I'm afraid that we won't be able to add VS commands for the SplitView buttons in Orcas but we will certainly consider that for the next version. You may want to submit this suggestion via Connect at https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio to give it some additional visibility.

There are no Cider-specific settings in Tools\Options\Keyboard except for the NavigateToEventHandler command in the XAML editor context menu (just search for XAML). Otherwise, we just hook up to a few existing VS commands, such as:

  • ViewDesigner, ViewCode
  • Cut, Copy, Paste
  • SelectAll, Delete
  • BringToFront, BringForward, SendBackward, SendToBack

Hi Marco,

The command you mention is for switching between the code and the designer windows, not between the designer's two views: Designer and Xaml.

I can not find the shortcut key for it or the command to bind this to.

I would greatly appreciate help with this.

Hi Omar,

View.ViewDesigner is the command that opens the designer. It is usually invoked from the "View Designer" menu item in the "View" menu or from the Solution Explorer context menu. When the WPF Designer is active it uses this command to toggle between the Design and XAML view tabs. View.ViewCode goes to the code-behind file and is by default bound to F7.

The problem is that View.ViewDesigner is not bound to any keyboard shortcuts in the General development settings profile. It is bound to Shift+F7 in the C# devevelopment settings profile. If you want that shortcut in the General settings you will have to bind Shift+F7 to View.ViewDesigner yourself in the Tools/Options dialog under Environment/Keyboard.

I hope this helps.
