    - Synchronizing two (or more) ScrollViewers Anybody got a good way of synchronizing two ScrollViewers My Scenario is that I am creating a custom control where the scrollbars are on the main body of the control, but there are vertical and horizontal headers in their own seperate scrollviewers that need to be kept in sync. My solution so far has been to use an Attached property to set a SynchronizerGroup attribute on a ScrollViewer. When this property gets set, I hook up to the ScrollChanged event on the ScrollViewer. Then when the event is fired on one scroll viewer, I call ScrollToHorizontalOffset or ScrollToVerticalOffset as appropriate on the other ScrollViewers with the same SyncrhonizerGroup value. This seems to lead to problems though (although it could be just my implementation): things like the scrollbar "sticking" when I try to drag it, or scroll with the mouse wheel.     - GridView problem Hello, in our project we want to show a data grid with name-value pairs within every item of a ListBox. To achieve this, a ListView and a nested GridView is defined in the item's DataTemplate. The xaml and code-behind files of a simple project are attached at the end of this message to show our approach. After the program is started, click the "Populate" button, to fill the list with items. The data grid of every item is filled with the name-value pairs. All looks like intended. To show our problem, you must restart the program. Befor populating the list, click the "Change Visibility" button. This hides the parent of the ListBox (visibility is set to hidden not to collapsed). Now click the "Populate" button to fill the list. After that, click the "Change Visibility" button a second time to show the list again. Unlike the first test, this time all columns are only as wide as the header. The text in all content-rows is clipped. Our expectations were, that all columns are still as wide as the widest content. Can anybody help us with this problem Is this a bug in our code, or an issue in the GridView Thanks in advance for your help.     - SecurityToken encryption I want to override the GetInfoCardSecurityToken function in the ClientCredential class. In this override i return my own GenericXmlSecurityToken class. I create a SamlSecurityToken and put in into the GenericXmlSecurityToken class. So far everything goes fine.     - Capturing user changes to controls and playing them back Hello, I have a query about an application I am currently in the very early planning stages for. My apologies if this isn't the right place to post this, or it is too high level (any suggestions on other places to post etc etc would be most welcome!) I'm trying to establish: a) whether WPF might be a sensible platform to use b) how easily my requirements might be met and c) if anyone knows of any example code that does anything (vaguely) similar already I am not particularly experienced in actual use of WPF (beyond some simple examples) but have read about it with interest. The application is meant to display data in a series of interactive controls (e.g. data grids, filters, graphs etc) and the key requirement I'm focusing on is whether the user actions (e.g. what they focus on with the mouse, filters/values they change) could be easily recorded and then played back within the controls - sort of like a video recording, but one where it is the actual controls that are being moved about and playback could be paused, allowing someone to diverge from the path of the recorded "video". For that reason, it wouldn't work to simply use a Camtasia style approach to capture screen video. I see that WPF has pretty powerful animation features built in and I like the idea of the strong visual features for this project. I'm guessing a potential high-level solution might be something along the following lines: i) Create my data bound controls ii) User starts a recording iii) Events capture the status of controls at different points in time iv) Stop recording To play back recording: v) reload the same data set that the controls were linked to vi) Run an animation that moves the controls in line with the captured statuses So far, I've only really seen examples that played with animations that were set up at design time. I guess I'd be looking at needing some code to read in my captured control statuses and then run that as an animation Clearly it would help to make this as generic as possible, so that lots of recordings could be made and that ideally lots of different controls/changes could be captured. Any obvious pitfalls I might need to watch out for And are there any examples of apps that might do something similar out there (WPF or not; plus ideally with code available, but am keen to see it in action whatever) Many thanks, Neil PS If I've left out any other key info or I need to clarify something, please let me know.     - PresentationCore exception / unspecified error on the render thread WPF generally uses two threads: the UI thread and the render thread. When the render thread encounters a failure, it notifies the UI thread, which throws an InvalidOperationException from MediaContext.NotifyPartitionIsZombie. Of course, the stack of the UI thread is completely unrelated to the stack of the render thread when it failed. Fortunately, the render thread took a stack trace when it failed and stored it in memory. Unfortunately, there is no easy way of accessing it. We have debugging tools that can dig it out if you can provide us with a memory-dump from a debugger. If you would be willing to help us out, you can find instructions on how to create a memory dump from debuggers like WinDbg or cdb here: http://blogs.msdn.com/joncole/archive/2007/03/29/creating-a-process-memory-dump.aspx Now these tend to be large, so its best if you can store them somewhere (like an FTP site) and send us a link.     - How to get a binding to not cache the data (but always query the object bounded property instead)? Hi all, I have a nice problem and was wondering if I am doing things right or wrong. Please don't comment on the control layout or behavior, I was asked by someone to do something this way and it need to work this way. 1. What I need my app to do. I need to display elements (image and video) in a layout that looks somewhat like this: | X | X | X | X | X | X | | X | \ / | X | | X | / \ | X | | X | X | X | X | X | X | << Page 1 of N >> Where each small X is a thumbnail view of the image or video and the big X in the middle is a full res view of the image or video. When a user click on a thumbnail, that thumbnail switches position with the middle full res one. The thumbnail becomes fullres and the fullres becomes thumbnail. The user can press << or >> to see the next pages if there are multiple pages generated. When the user click on the middle image, an event is triggered from the panel to my window that informs which element got selected. 2. How I did it: The way I did this, which I think is the right way is: I create a Panel that positions the element in the way describe above. The panel is also realizing the IScrollInfo interface. I will convert my panel eventually to be Virtualized. In my xaml code I wrap my panel in a scroll viewer and I hide the scroll bar (bundled in an itemcontrol). In the c# code for the window holding the panel, I handle the >> and << by using the scrollviewer nextpage and prevpage method. The working ugly solution: In my datatemplate for my image data type, instead of using an Image control I use a SmartImage(derived from Image). In SmartImage.Arrange, I check the final size and if it is bigger than some value, I go fetch the full res image (using a custom DP that I've created call URI). The question: Is this done the right way or the wrong way One way I though of doing things that would solve the caching problem is to recreated the item using the IItemContainerGenerator. When the user select a thumbnail, instead of switching the position, I would destroy the current thumbnail container and recreate it in the middle using the IItemContainerGenerator (like you do it with a VirtualizedPanel. Every time I try to install Visual Web Designer 2008 Beta 2 Express Edition, the installation fails. I did not download the "img" file, as I did it with the actual site download. I do get the files to "download" as it seems, but when it comes to install, I get hit with errors. I understand that this is a BETA product, but for people to actually test this product, the installation process should be totally done no matter the errors, in other words, regardless of whether one gets an error or not, the installation should never fail at all. So, the only other thing that I can do is redo everything, but I doubt that that will work. This "failed" installation problem is driving me to not want to get Visual Studios 2008 Express Edition at all, but I don't want to do that since I would like to have the suite of dev tools.

If there is anyone else that has found any way to get the VWD2008 on a WinXP computer, I would really appreciate knowing the steps taken.

Did you have Beta 1 installed previously If so you might have to manually remove the Web Authoring component in Add/Remove Programs.

Can you post a snippet of your installation logs from the timestamp you tried to install

1. Open Windows Explorer

2. Paste %temp% in the address bar

3. Copy the contents of DD_vns_xcor90 into this window

Can you provide more details What error are you seeing Does it fail during the download phase or during install

I just re-installed VWD on my home machine to make sure it is still working and it did work.

I use offline installation. My config: WXP HE SP2, and also the .NET Framework 1.1 is installed.

I tried to install the WD and C# packages. They failed on the .NET Framework 3.5 installation. Any ideas
