I have an animated item which grows on MouseOn.

Ive been trying to take a rectangle with a visualbrush property of the item above and
put a bitmap effect on it.

before putting the bitmap effect on, the animation looks good on the visual brush,
but after putting the animation, the visual brush does not respond to the animation,
its just frozen.

Does it work for anyone else

I have exactly the same issue. I was trying to apply an animation to the Ellipse in the SDK Relection sample. Whenever the BitmapEffect is applied the animation is not see in the VisualBrush

From the SDK docs

Updates to the visual tree of a VisualBrush will not propagate if a BitmapEffect is in the brush's parent chain. You can workaround this limitation by forcing an update of the scene on the object above the effect. You can call InvalidateVisual or include an animation to force a scene update.

That doesn't work for me because I AM including an Animation and it still does not work.

I believe that you need to apply an animation to a Visual above the BitmapEffect - is this what's not working for you
