prob in inputting text to PPC emulator

Hi,

I've a prob in inputting text to PPC emulator. I've recently upgraded my CF1.0 app to CF2.0. With VS2003 emulator i was able to input text to any textfield in my app directly typing it from the keyboard. I did'nt need to use input panel. But this is not possible right now. Its accepting input only from the input panel, not directly from the keyboard. For few runs of the app after upgradation, i entered text directly typing it on the PC keyboard. But suddenly it stopped working. Any idea why this is so Is it the prob with VS2005. Right now my app is under testing. And using the input panel every time to input is time-consuming. Plz tell me how to enable input from the keyboard.

Device Emulator shipped with Visual Studio 2005 queues all input received on desktop pc to win CE after appropriate mapping, so input given should work absolutely fine.

Can you please let me know

1. Are other text panels on PPC os working fine

2. Is it only your program which is causing issues

3. You told previously it seemed to be working. Can you tell me specific actions between it working and stopped taking input.

4. Is it possible to give a sample code

Hi,

I'm unable to send input to the app just by hitting the keys on the keyboard.
Answers to your quest.s

1. Yes, i checked all the four keyboard,transcriber.. All work. I use keyboard from the SIP for working with the app.

2. No. I tried to check with a sample app. That is too not accepting charaters from keyboard

3. Yes, initially it accepted, but some time it stopped. And one peculiar thing is after i've made this post, i observed it working 2 times, but suddenly stopping. I did'nt recognise the circumstances when its accepting and stopping to accept.

4. I think this is no way related to my code. It might be a prob with my emulator.

Can you please remove/rename the save-state file of emulator (.dess file in All Users/Application Data/Microsoft/Device Emulator and <user-name>/Application Data/Microsoft/Device Emulator directory)

Also, can you please let me know if this issue is with one perticular emulator or all the emulators.

Hi Mohit,

It worked! Now i'm able to type in the text from the keyboard with my pc. Thanks a lot. But why does this happen with my emulator

Right now, i'm working only with PPC 2003 emulator that shift with VS2005. Previously i was running the same app on VS2003. But i never has such prob with that emulator.

Do i have to delete the state files every time i have this problem Actually why does this happen

I don't know for sure. But since you mentioned that it used to work and then later on stopped working, it seemed to me that some transient error had occured. Since Save-state store the state of emulator (memory, register, peripherals) etc and brings down the OS into power-down mode, so it seems that emulator got into some bad state in save-state file.

In the absence of clear repro, it is best to remove the save-states for these issues which were not present but start coming later on due to some transient failure or emulator bug.

Hi Mohit,

Can You please provide me with some reference link that gives me info. abt the state files.
Actually i was trying to increase the RAM size on the PPC emulator yesterday, which was not increasing. I searched for a solution and found a post, with the solution as renaming the state file in E:\VS2005\SmartDevices\Emulators\Images\PocketPC\2003\VGAPortrait\1033. I've done the same and only then i was able to increase the size. When the state files give such probs why need storing the state at all
And regarding the keyboard input, i've to delete those files every time i want to input text with the keyboard. Any suggestions
