    - people spamming live gallery ratings and down rating not mensioning any names (BAMKEE) Iv'e noticed that a couple of people are creating sidebar, live and myspace gadgets and spamming other gadget search tags with their own email addresses and gadgets and stuff. These people are also Down rating other live, myspace and sidebar gadgets to get their gadgets to the top of the lists. one person in particular is Bamkee who posted 3 gadgets almost identical and had 5 star average out of 20 ratings before he had even had 20 downloads. Me and my brother developed a sidebar gadget for ebay which has been downloaded 5100 times since november and had 56 genuine ratings until Bamkee posted his similar gadgets which . Now our gadget has 87 ratings due to Bamkee down-rating as he sees our gadget to be a threat to his. although our gadget has a totally different purpose. not only this but I suspect he and others have been downrating Sidebar, live and myspace gadgets to get onto the top rated list These people should not be allowed to post gadgets and should be taught a lesson wouldn't it be funny if all msn users down rated their gadgets to teach them a lesson.     - PPC application does not update sdk database from emulator? Keep in mind you're working with a _copy_ of the database on device file system and original on your desktop would never change unless you manually copy it from device to desktop. Also if you have VS configured to deploy database every time you run your application it would overwrite your changes on device file system.     - GPS development Location plotting on a device is a very crowded space already and it costs a LOT of money to get into the data side of things. I would think twice about doing anything on WindowsMobile with GPS other than data logging or something because the good map engines and data a HUGELY expensive and I have yet to see a decent SDK for mapping on PPC either by MS or a third party. After installation is done, you must regsiter it in order to do get the Visual Studio use this V 2.0 Emulator instead of the one that came with Visual Studio 2005.     - Text, transparency, focus and backgrounds in gadgets I have been given a background (a png) that is partially transparent all the way across to use in a gadget. I can layer text on it and the text becomes partially transparent too. So white text becomes grey etc. However if I try and get this text or the box that contains it to respond to mouseover events - it just won't. Well it will but only if I click on another arbitrary part of the background first (in the middle near the top - there are no hidden elements in there). Then all the text goes a weird pinkish white, and then it will respond. This seems to be another manifestation of the commonly recurring problems with focus. I want to check is there any reason that text layered on partially transparent background won't respond I mean the whole background is transparent, not just a section of it. I'm happy to post the code, but I've lifted it from another working gadget I created, so I'm fairly certain it isn't the code, besides it's pretty simple to have an element with an onmouseover or onclick event that calls a function and to have that function with a single line of code that responds to it. So in summation - in this gadget of a few lines with a partially transparent background, the onmouseover event on a div won't respond, unless focus is somehow gained first (note self.focus() doesn't help). In a similar gadget with an opaque background with transparent border, onmouseover div responds just fine. I only see one gadget on Gallery that has anything to do with directions , and that's a Web Gadget rather than a Sidebar gadget. Similarly, if you're just starting to learn how to write gadgets, why not start with a concept that's already been done to death That way you can focus on learning the concepts behind writing gadgets without having to worry about the feasibility of the idea. Get a few gadgets under your belt that way (don't submit "test" gadgets to Gallery, please) and when you're feeling comfortable with the concepts and framework of gadgets you can go on and build your award winning, world-changing gadget.     - C# PF Usage OutOfMemory with Build version of Application I have a program that reads AD and writes a table. I was using stringbuilder and completely re-wrote the app using OleDb & Parameters. Eitherway (with StringBuilder or without), when it runs in VS2005, no problem. When I build project (for deployment), the exe immediately runs PF Usage past 2GB, almost before reading the 100th AD record. It occurs when I load the directory entry data to the parameter values. I am not doing any special logic, just straight loading. If I bypass the OleDb update query, than no memory problem. Is there some special compile options I can apply so it runs the same as within VS environment I hope someone has some suggestions, I have spent 3 full days (i mean all day/night) on this. I'm trying to follow the instructions in a getting started document about creating a local data service. I can't seem to find "Web Data Service" in any template under VC# in VS 2008 beta2. I have installed the Entity framework and the Astonia build that came out earlier this week. I figure that I am missing something. Any pointers that anyone can give me

A CTP of Astoria is available as an add on to VS Beta 2. Please see this post for a description of the bits that are available for Beta 2 as well as this post for a quick start on how to get going.
