    - Horrible experience, stupid device emulator Hi I’ve seen the iPhone yesterday, and I decided to have a look on the Windows Mobile emulator before I decide between Window Mobile and iPhone, and people, I can’t just get the Windows Mobile emulator to work as it should. Connecting the Windows Mobile 5 emulator to the internet was not possible; I tried the blogs on the internet, reading this message board and still was not able to browse the internet from Windows Mobile. The problem is, Windows Mobile is written by people who expect you to know about NE2000 or mini port something whatever crap does that mean. It asks me if I have an ISP, or I want to setup a VPN, or if I am at Work, and do I want to cradle “whatever the hell it means”, and do I want to enter the IP address manually or automatically, and what is my Wins, DNS, #!$@#$@#$@#$@#$ After half an hour struggling with Windows Mobile 5, I wished if Microsoft do the following: - Find who wrote that UI panel on Windows Mobile. - Take their cars, yes, driving an automatic car is a privilege, they must experience a bit of Microsoftiness. - Give each one of them a new car, a one that need 5 drivers to get it on the road, a driver to steer the car with 3 steering wheels, I have no idea what the additional two are for, but after having a look at Windows Mobile, I guess they will find a use for them. - Another driver to operate the gas and car oil system, and let’s give him 5 gas pedals, and 20 buttons to do something with the engine oil, and so on with the rest of the team. People, whoever is writing Windows Mobile, the device is like you car, I don’t care about the engine details while I am driving, I don’t care about the oil distributions, I don’t care about the car settings, all what I care about when I am driving is if the car is operational, and if there is something wrong with the car. I hope you learn from the iPhone! I got my first Windows CE device in 1999 and today 2007, it has been 8 years and nothing changed! but iPhone, it is close to perfection from its first release!     - How to sign my application? I installed the "TEST USE ONLY - Sample UNPRIVILEGED" instead of the Privileged certificate. However, the PDA asks me for permission to execute a <MyProject>.resources.dll. That is deployed to the same directory as my application. You seem to have labelled it BACKLIGHTON_WM6, but I find no official reference for that (it's certainly not in pm.h in the WM6 SDK). Have you just assumed that one SUSPEND2 isn't there either.     - Gadget behavior on spaces vs live.com? Strange. I just checked out couple gadgets of my own that do the same thing to break the cache and they work just fine up on Spaces. I tested both the generic proxy and the RSS proxy and saw no difference. The only difference is that my gadgets pull apart the RSS feeds using XPaths while yours uses Start.Parser.RssParseResponse, so perhaps the caching is happening in the parser. Try some simple alert()-style debugging. In OnFeedReceived, do an alert(response.responseXML.documentElement.text); and copy the output for several refreshes (you can ctrl+c on the alert() message box). Save the output into different files and run a diff on them (using a tool like windiff, if you have it). If they're different but you're still getting the same output as if it's cached then something's going on in Start.Parser.RssParseResponse and it's time to look into parsing on your own :). Here's a link to the w3c.org XPath spec . That's a little dry reading but it covers XPath syntax fairly well. You can also lookup the selectNodes() and selectSingleNode() methods for the javascript XML document as those are the functions you'll use to apply XPaths (the former returns an array of nodes that match the XPath, the latter returns only the first matching node).     - Using gadget from a 3rd party place. Hi! I have a gadget, that Ii don't want to send to the live gallery, but I'd like to use it on live.com from different machines (home, work). And I don't want to install web server on each of these PCs, and use the gadget from localhost. So i want to put it on a web server I can reach from both places. But when I try to add the gadget manifest's URL on the live.com with my web server's ip I get an error: "checking for autodiscover tag..." and then nothing happens. Yes, I read an explanation for that. (Besides I tried also with IE6, but got the same problem.) [not sure if this is the correct forum, so please redirect me if you know..] Does anyone know if there is any way to get the Pharos GPS USB device (I have a Bluetooth Cradle for it as well) to work with the Motorola “Q” phone. I have both Streets and Maps Mobile edition and Virtual Earth. There is another third party product GPS hard/software combination made for the “Q” which uses a Bluetooth connection for their GPS device. Any advice would be appreciated!     - Clearing user inputs In each of my dialogs in the load and OK click event I turn on the wait cursor while doing processing. In almost all cases the time is less than 5 seconds, and I am running on an actual device using the .NET compact framework. In a few spots in my application I have some dialogs chained together, meaning after dialog A comes up, then dialog B will come up. The problem is when a user clicks multiple times on the screen for dialog A, there is a click getting through to dialog B. How do I make that not happen I have tried creating both dialogs up front and that doesn't seem to help and in some cases it doesn't work because a selection in dialog A may affect which dialog comes up next. The problem seems worse when the OK processing in dialog A takes a short time because then the wait cursor is not even displayed until the load of dialog B. Now with these Mobile 5.0 devices with not only stylus input, but menu button input, the problem seems to be a common one, so I thought I would get some input on what other people have done to solve this problem.     - Stupid DataGrid tricks Very new to .NET and CF programming. Sorry if this is a lame question. On one form I have a Bound ComboBox. Its DataSource pulls the possible SelectedItem and SelectedValue pairs from Table A and it saves the SelectedValue to Table B. No problem. In another form however, I want to display Table B data in a DataGrid. Of course, I get the Value I saved, but what I would like to see is the a lookup to tableA so it displays the SelectedItem's text. My options appear to be 1) Save the Item rather than the Value (which scrods any hope of i18n'ing the thing later on) 2) Make my own DataGrid that does this (which I suspect is beyond my level so far). I have built a "heartbeat" between the two machines running in a timer's click event every second using this code...     - Unable to start debugging Standard partnership: Whenever I put the device in the cradle, a popup box will display on my desktop computer. It says: Set Up a Partner Ship ..........Two options are "Standard partnership" and "Guest partnership". There are three buttons at the bottom of the box: "Next>", "Cancel", "Help". Normaly what I did is just to click the "Cancel" button to hide this box. But now I need to click "Next>" with "Standard partnership" selected to debug my application. But this doesn't always work.     - Authentication in Astoria I really think that this would be a great area for Microsoft to step up and offer guidance on WCF security. Following in the footsteps of the asp.net membership API the trustworthy computing initiative this is something that Microsoft could off that developers would be able to jump on and kick start their development. I would think that following the model similar to the Flickr API with both a developer key and user authentication would be ideal.     - Saving a signature as a bitmap Hello, VS 2005 CF 2.0 I have created a PDA device and will allow the user to write their signature.     - Determining 802.11 Authentication Mode I am currently developping a wireless AP manager for a smart device. One of the requirements is that I must provide a site survey that displays SSID, RSSI and security requirements. I am using a combination of wireless zero config and NDIS. I am having difficulty determining the security requirements. How can I retreive NDIS_802_11_AUTHENTICATION_MODE for each SSID in a NDIS_802_11_BSSID_LIST_EX NDIS_WLAN_BSSID_EX structures do not have this information. Perhaps in my haste I missed this one. When trying to install the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for smartphones, the installer stops, and tells me not all required development tools are installed. However, both VS 2005 and ActiveSync 4.2 are installed.
Am I missing something else

Problem fixed. I had previously used a custom install for VS2005 that did not include the required smart device options. Han

I am having a similar problem, the install for the SDK will not complete. It hangs during the 'clean-up' phase of the repair and never completes. Should I remove VS2005 Standard and reinstall

No, but you might have to temporarily uninstall or disable your antivirus/spyware software.
