When trying to update my NowPlaying gadget on the Live Gallery i get the following error:
Your gadget is either missing a valid signature or a valid certificate.

What can i do to remedy this

Thanks

Hi ljames28.

It seems that your gadget was signed, but the signature is not valid in some way. Are you using a certificate that is expired, doesn't chain to a root, etc. Or maybe the signature is corrupted

Thanks.

Does it matter that the certificates not "real" as in, i just created it using makecert.exe, i didn't actually buy a proper certificate

Hi ljames28.

Yes, you need to aquire an official certificate from a root authority.

If you don't want to go through that process to aquire an official certificate you can submit the item without a signature and it should be accepted (barring some other issue).

Thanks.

Okay thanks. Is this a new requirement for certificates As i've been submitting using this certificate for several months now.

Hi ljames28.

Yes, we recently did a small update requiring this going forward so that people that are downloading items can get a verified name if available (and valid).

We looked at all content on the site and it should affect a small number of publishers.

If you (or anyone else) doesn't want to get a full certificate you can simply re-submit the item as unsigned and it will retain the same download count, ratings and reviews.

We are also planning on retro-actively rejecting items that have invalid signatures soon.

Thanks.

Meaning, if we have a signed gadget or two on gallery, they're going to be removed soon unless that signature is from a verified source...

I'd better get purchasing a proper signature then Smile
