 - Interfaces The return of a method that returns an interface is returning a reference to an object that is based on the interface. When I say objects, I mean the specific classes that do the work. When an object is created that has an interface implementation, the object is created on the heap, not the interface. This can be found when a factory returns an interface. It is returning a reference, which is an interface and the user can only do the operations that interface defines: Code Snippet ImyWorkerDB worker = Factory.GetDBWorkers("GeneralLedger"); That is how the client gets the general ledger class as an interface iMyWorkerDB which then can be acted upon. But if the user knows its a GeneralLedger object it can cast it such as Code Snippet GeneralLedger myGL = worker as GeneralLedger; if (myGL != null) // Test to check if the cast was valid. { ... } else { throw new Exception("Something is wrong with GL cast"); } Note most often the written code that use interfaces will not do the cast after receiving it, it kind of defeats the purpose of having the interface in the first place. Because if the factory changes and the object has changed behind the scenes, the old cast is no longer valid. It would break the consumers who did that.  - how to print pdf document with out opening from web application There are a couple of ways to do this. One way is using Acrobat Reader and another is using GhostScript. Using Acrobat Reader is easy to use and doesn't require you to install anything else if you already have Acrobat Reader. But it takes longer time to print and if you don't kill it properly, you won't be able to print next one. If we don't kill it after it's done, the Acrobat reader will stay in the memory. Then the user won't able to print next one. The solution is to set a timeout time. After the time elapsed, just kill the Acrobat reader. Forturenately on our server it only takes about 30 seconds. process.WaitForExit(30000); if (process.HasExited==false) { process.Kill(); } We actually used the GhostScript approach. You will need to install GhostScript. It is free download. I would start basic and work your way up from there. Start learning how to work with Direct X for graphics and keep getting more advanced as you go. There are game development sites such as gamedev.net to help you on your way in regards to general principals. For .NET development I recommend you download XNA . XNA is a Visual Studio set of projects for creating PC and XBOX 360 games using Visual C# express. I would also recommend the coding 4 fun website. That site has a bunch of fun and interesting projects that can be completed in a relatively short amount of time. It has projects ranging from game projects to integration with popular services to working with Robots and Home Automation. It provides a fun and interesting way to learn C#. I don't remember if this is an automatic thing or whether it only occurs if the resource file contains a VERSIONINFO resource. You'll have to either remove the VERSIONINFO resource from the native resource or build an equivalent one. Is there any reason why you feel the need to create a native resource to store bitmaps when you can just extract/store the bitmaps in a managed resource It would simplify things greatly.  - Passing a C# struct to an unmanaged DLL Hi It is not normally required to pin references when you pass them as parameters to an unmanaged API via PInvoke. The PInvoke layer takes care of pinning them. For instance, buffers and delegates etc are automatically pinned and more efficiently as required by the PInvoke layer.  - COM Interop: Base class properties not exposed to COM You are being misled by the documentation. If you allow the compiler to auto-generate the COM visible interface for you then it will flatten out the members when it builds the COM interface. COM only works through interfaces so the interface determines what COM sees. In your case you defined the COM visible interface. Therefore COM clients can only see the members that your COM visible interface defined. This applies to any member of your class whether it is defined within the class or inherited.
