Yes, I have different DLLs for DEBUG and RELEASE, since RELEASE is performance optimized and has the debug switches turned off. And changing all the project references is a ton of clicks and error prone. Since I only build to RELEASE occasionally ,will the following work I could run a project RELEASE build which has references to all the DEBUG DLLs. Then run a script to copy all the RELEASE DLLs from my class libraries into my ..\MyProject\bin\Release folder.     - accessing web references in .dll from windows applications...when running in Visual Studio .Net Hi, We have an windows application that includes some .dll files. These .dll files have dynamic web references included in them. When I run the application from it's install folder, the web references work okay fine (they are read from the "application.exe.config" file. But when running the application from within Visual Studio .Net, we have to change the value of the web reference with the project in order for it to work (ie. it does not read the app.config or web.config files, uses the value in the web reference). I have used the same "application.exe.config" file in the bin directory of the project, does not seem to read from it. I have changed all the app.config and web.config files in the project directories....still no good. Only seems to use the properties value in the web reference in each project (which are the source for the .dll files). While it is fine that it works at run time, not working running via Visual Studio requires that we change the web refences in the projects if we want to change the values...rather than just changing a config file value. If I simple bind the datarow to the labels' Text property, when I update the Datatable I expected the changes to be reflected in the label.     - Settings File Question If the settings you are referring to are in app.config, there is an extra attribute you can add to that file to reference a secondary configuration file that is in another [relative] location. This attribute causes information from the secondary file to be merged with the current file. I did this once to allow me to have a single settings (app.config) file in a centralized location (a network share) so that if any of the settings changed I didn't have to go update x-number of settings files located on x-number of computers. Your application code doesn't need to change with this approach, as the merging is handled automatically. You can look this up in the help file to see if it is what you want/need.     - Inline method in C# !!! Peter is quite correct. One additional thing to point out, is that JIT inlining is disabled if a debugger is present. This is true regardless of the build configuration. If you are doing any timing tests, I strongly recommend not having Visual Studio or any other debugging capable program running on your machine at that time [some set the environment to indicate the presence of a debugger even it it is not attached]. You could start by looking at the class codes, then move toward the subcodes for more information. While I understand that you likely only run into a subset of exceptions and thus do not necessarily need to enumerate the full range of possible errors, it seems to me that you might handle it best by using SqlState or SqlState in combination with severity. For instance, timeout expired, this particular error should not be retried directly or aborted in most cases. In the case of command timeouts, you would want to: log the issue as a performance issue with a query, reconnect, raise the timeout, and retry. There is some need to add context to these exceptions. For instance, a timeout exception in a long running query might have a different severity from a timeout exception in connecting and they would be handled differently.
