Hi...

In my application, i am creating a file with custom extension(e.g. .sss). I want this file to be opened with my C# application whenever user double clicks on it...

Also i want my application name also to be listed in the "Open with..." dialog of windows...

How i can do this in C#... Is there is any setting i have to do do in VS2005...

Thanks,

IamHuM

Hi IamHuM!

Firstly, to open your files named like "filename.sss" by doubleclicking you need to create association in Windows.

it can be achieved in Folder options in the top menu "Tools" in the tab "File Types".

Secondly, for "Open with..." popupmenu you need to open your file once with "Open with..." menu.

for that you need to select a "Choose program..." option and select your program from there with marked option "Always use selected program to open this kind of file".

Hi...

Thanks for the reply...

For creating the association & for adding my application name in the Open with dialog settings which you told have to do it are manual...

Cant i do it with my installer... So that when i'll install my application the default association for my file & open with menu options will have default settings with my application.

Basically i dont want to create it manually... i'll change it first with installer & leter if user wants he can remove these settings...

Thanks,

IamHuM

If you use a Visual Studio Setup project to create your installer, you can use the File Type Editor to easily associate extensions with your application.

Please consult the MSDN documentation for more information:

Yes, you can use installer environment to do it.
