Hi, for my school I need to create 2 applications... 1 for monitoring printer usage and 1 for monitoring internet usage. For printing, i've learnt that I can use WMI code and this seems to work fine. However, i havent as yet found an equivalent for internet usage. Our students use both ie and firefox. Is there a class or something that exposes who the user is and what sites they are visiting at all

thanks

It seems to me that these types of things should be done server-side, not client-side. So that all communications have to pass through your program to get to the printer and/or internet -- if your program goes down, so should the internet access and printing. Of course, you should make sure your program doesn't crash since you'd have many angry/frustrated people.

It surprises me that your school would hire (hopefully they're paying you...) someone who doesn't have experience doing this type of thing. Not that I have any more experience doing it! I just don't think I could accept this job because I probably wouldn't do it right.

It isnt going to control anything, just to sit on the client PC logging what sites are being accessed. Created in a windows service... We just want a simple report of whats been accessed and printed.

Is there something I can query which will send me notifications when a new site is launched

Hi Paul,

I think you can try something like Fiddler: http://www.fiddlertool.com/fiddler/ which is usually used as a Http debugger.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

I found HTTP spy.NET which is developed by .NET and do the similar thing as fiddler.

Check this: http://pcwin.com/Internet/HTTP_Spy__NET/download.htm

Hope it helps.

Thanks
