I used to be able to hit control key and F key, it pops up the Quick Find window, now this does not work anymore. All the options listed under pulldown menu Edit and Find and Replace do not display any window. it just did nothing.

could anyone please let me know how to get those functions back.

It did not work. Becase not only the short cut key didn't work, but also the pulldow menu options in the Edit, Find and Replaces did't work as well.

I tried what you have suggested, the short cut key was already listed what was currently assign to the Edit.Find. but I removed it and Assign it back anyway. But that did not fix the problem.

Because the problem is not the shotcut key, it is the the entir Find functionality.

This is driving me crazy now because I can not do find and replace or just find.

I Wish someone can help me fix it.

Thanks

I finally solved it.

The Find window was hidden way to the left of the monitor beyound frame. I can't see it. But I moved my mouse along the left edge of the monitor slowly, at one point, the cursor changed into a resize two ended arrow shap. so I clicked and dragged. The window came out!

I don't know how that happened. But It was tricky to get it back!

I had the same problem, however I couldn't locate the quick find window even by scrolling along the edge of the screen, but your post did give me the idea the change my screen res, which pushed all the windows in to viewable areas and then there it was back from where ever it had ended up off screen.

I'm pretty sure that I never pushed it off screen, I think that it is something odd maybe in VS.

I had the same problem with the quick find window not appearing when I selected it, I couldn't find it even by scrolling along the edge of the screen, eventually I had the change the screen res and then it was pushed back into a viewable area.

Would be a good idea for MS to force it back into a viewable area when VS is opened maybe.

I am glad that I that my post helped other people. I wonder if this has anything to do with using two screens. (I have two screens).

I personally do not believe it's linked to the dual monitor setup. I'm also lucky enough to have dual monitors, and it just sometimes happens. :<

The quickest way to test/fix this is to use the windows keystrokes to open the control menu (the file handle on the top left of the window, or should I say the minus sign, yup, it's supposed to represent a file handle on a physical file cabinet :>) with ALT+Space, then using either M (for Move) or S (for Size) then the arrow keys. Sounds convoluted here when you itemize it out, but when you try it, it's fast and foolproof way of doing it.

A quicker way to find out if this IS indeed the problem, use the ALT+Space, X to Maximize the window. If you get the window, you know when it's restored, it's off the screen someplace and you need to use the above keystrokes to move/resize it.

Good luck.

I just tried you suggestion. I did ctrl F to get the quick find window pop up. and then

tried you key strokes. However, all the key strokes did things to the vs.net Window not the quick find window,

even I purposely click the quick find window to bring it to the front.

Oh darn! :<  I assumed (erronously on my part :<) the Find window had a control box, but I just checked and it doesn't. :<  I'm sorry, that quick little tidbit isn't going to work in this case. :<  Sorry about that.

That could be a good thing for MS to add to the future versions. Thanks for the tips, it could be useful for other cases.

You were almost right.

Simply open the Find/Replace box using the menu, then use Alt + - to get the move menu on a child window, which appears all alone so you'll have to look for it.

That's how I fixed mine!

I'm glad I found this thread. I just had the same problem with VS2005. After uninstalling VS and reinstalling, the Find dialog still would not appear. I thought this might have something to do with having VS2003 and VS2005 installed--but seemed unlikely. After reading this thread I looked closely and found the dialog hidden off screen at the bottom right edge of my screen, just enough to put my mouse over and drag to maximize the box.

Is this an issue with VS2005 I never moved the dialog off screen like this, or made any changes to my screen resolution.

This worked for me and my two monitor situation, although I don't think that has anything to do with it.

What is scary is not knowing how it got messed up in the first place and no easy way to "Reset" everything in terms of window position/anchoring to some out-of-the-box default configuration that also affects these pop-up windows, not just the "regular" windows.
