I have been developing Windows Services now for a couple weeks. I keep getting this message after serveral reinstalls. Has happened in multiple projects.

Alert Box = The [name of my service] service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the performace Logs and Alerts service.

This happens out of nowhere with code that I know worked just seconds ago. I take the msi file out of the debug directory of the setup folder and it runs fine on other machines. This one has me stumped, it seems to me that registry setting or the GUID is getting corrupted or misinterpreted. Any Ideas.

Hi,

Do your service has any interaction with desktop.

Like showing some message box.

If yes then go to service property, click on log on Tab and check the check box Allow the service to intearct with desktop.

If no then go to event log and find the error which you are getting when starting the application.

Their seems to be a bug with the application Event log maybe all logs haven't tested When it gets filled up it doesn't let you run or install your service and you receive no message stating this. If you clear the event log then it will let your install the service again. Spent hours on this one hope helps anyone else who runs into this problem.
