    - how to check if another instance of an application is already running or if a certain port, say 30550, is open or not Hi, I have an application in C# running peacefully. Problem occus when another instance of the application is started on the same machine. How can I, inside my application, check if an instance of the same application is running or not. If running, I shall pre-maturely exit from my new instance preventing it from starting up. In my application, I am using a TcpListener() listener object to listen on a certain port, say 30550.     - Settings problem with whitespace Hi, I've been using the Properties.Settings stuff to save my application settings and it's been really easy to use. I've seen one funny thing though. I've set a text box to bing to a string setting and when I save a space as the setting it gets garbled. The xml written in the settings file is like, <value> </value> Which means that when it's recalled it ends up looking like a new line followed by a bunch of spaces. Everything else saves fine. It's just if you try to save a space that things get weird. I did see one help article in MSDN that appeared to suggest saving a . after a text value suggesting that the author of the help page had seen the same sort of thing but there was no mention of the problem. Is this a known issue I ended up putting a kludge in to manually save and read the settings myself by adding a full stop after the value to prevent mangling. Am I missing something obvious Colin. I'm using the C# Mono Compiler on XP and am trying to reference a dll file, but I receive an error saying the dll has invalid assembly metadata.     - inheriting from one class to another? I am building a console app using c# express edition. I'm trying to use a variable's value in a class that is also in another class. The class that it originates in is where the logic and input validation is. I am then trying to pass the variable(or it's value) to another class that contains my database code.This is where I reference it to write the values to the database. I get an error message that says; 'The name " variable name" does not exist in the current context.' The variables are declared and used in the class where they originate. I am assuming that I need the other class to inherit the varaible and it's value. I am not sure if inheritance is the correct way to go about this. Thanks Figo, Actually, I think that maybe "TreeItemHeader" might have been a bit misleading of a type to use with such a small example... you really shouldn't take any meaning from it's type, but just that it was derived from TreeItemBase. I want to have a variety of classes all based upon TreeItemBase, but I guess that's not going to be possible without a lot of intermediate casting. I guess the best thing I can do right now is to learn more about the guts of C#. What topic(s) would I be looking at to get a better understanding of why RNode<BaseObject> = RNode<DerivedFromBaseObject> will not work, when BaseObject = DerivedFromBaseObject will work.     - How this works i may sound really dumb...but i still am not able to understand why the CLR fails to know that the value S5280ft doesnt exist in intern pool any more. The following is MS description of how the intern method of string works. "The Intern method uses the intern pool to search for a string equal to the value of str . i have a large code base, for which i want to generate code comments for classes, functions etc.. automatically..

all the classes and methods are not commented at all, so anybody knows any tool , it will be helpful..

or otherwise i want to write an add-in to visual studio which atleast can add comment on all the members of

currently opened file..

anyidea how to proceed....
