I receive a security warning dialog every time I open or create a project in Visual Studio 2005 on Vista. It tells me the project is customized and could present a security risk by executing custom build steps. It gives me two options, "Load project for browsing" or "Load project normally."

I receive this dialog every time I create or open a project. These projects are loaded from a local disk, and only a few of my projects have custom build steps.

There is a "More Details" button on this dialog and it says the following. I renamed some of the directories in the message.

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
An item referring to the file "" was found in the project file "E:\Settings\user\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\Project1\Project1\Project1.csproj". Since this file is located within a system directory, root directory, or network share, it could be harmful to write to this file.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Does anyone know how to disable this warning

Are you sure drive E is not a network-connected drive

Yes, I am absolutely positive. Drive E is a partition on a local disk.

What details are displayed when you click the More Details button

If the details displayed when clicking the More Details button displays how to fix the problem, does following the instructions solve your problem

As previously stated, it says the following.

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
An item referring to the file "" was found in the project file "E:\Settings\user\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\Project1\Project1\Project1.csproj". Since this file is located within a system directory, root directory, or network share, it could be harmful to write to this file.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

There are no instructions on how to fix it.

I had the same error in the same circumstances (opening proiects in VS05 under Vista). Installing FxCop 1.35 resolved this for me.

I traced the error to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Setup\EDev\FxCopDir. Renaming this key caused a package load error for the analysis package which stopped it from loading
and resolved project load error. Installing the new FxCop let me reneable the analysis package and removed the project load error.
