When right clicking on the Data Connections icon / line at the top of the Database Explorer, the menu choice for Create New SQL Server Database is grayed out.

I have uninstalled both SQL Server Express and C# Express, and reinstalled them from a Microsoft web site (not the CD that came with a book) as they should be more current. After all this including, running Chkdsk between reboots, the result was the same. Are there any settings (permissions ) in either SQL Server Express, or C# Express that can restore this Thank you.

Do you mean "Server Explorer" "Database Explorer"

Try Walkthrough: Creating a SQL Server Express Database File

That link was helpful, but took a different way of doing a similar thing.

The Server Explorer in standard editions is named the Database Explorer in C# Express. There are many tutorials that use the technique of Right Clicking in an empty area of this Database Explorer window, which shows a window with five choices starting with Refresh. The ¡°Create New SQL Server Database¡¡± option is grayed out here. It used to be in black, and clicking it allowed me to create a new database. Is there a solution for this

Thank you.
